Yes, I almost feel sorry for them: constantly having to come up with stuff to talk about, when often, there isn't all that much to talk about.

Although, I hope they have been talking about the need to reform or get rid of the PSD; as I think Dawson trade once again illustrated that it's a problem.

His second try was that Hawthorn wanted to do it, but couldn't. To me, that suggests more of a problem with Hawthorn, rather than the system. And lastly he claimed that everybody, especially the fans, found the current system intolerable. However, he didn't back that up with any stats or survey results. Personally, I can't recall hearing any fan saying, that they find it intolerable, that clubs can't trade players without their consent. At a guess, I think many fans would find it perfectly tolerable.
I wish our "like button" still worked.

I also wish the media nerds (note: second time word used this month) would rediscover the art of reading a book (or maybe a Marvel comic if that suits better) rather than thinking the trade period exists purely for their entertainment.

There's also a lot of important factors missing from the analysis. One is the assumption that we will continue to play only one key defender in Tom McCartin. There is no consideration of how the team would look with Will Gould. Did they just write him off? And they talk about TMac as a winger as opposed to being a HBF as some kind of revelation. TMac was always meant for the midfield.

TMac, Dawson and Blakey were played in several roles during the year. It's ludicrous to say TMac is Dawson's replacement without going into who would be TMac's replacement.

The idea of Hewett being sent off to make room for Rowbottom is something that's been discussed on here all year. This is not a revelation. And even if one prefers to substitute the name Warner for Rowbottom, it's still conceptually the same, i.e. we got rid of a very solid player in Hewett because we needed to make room for players like Rowbottom and Warner.

The lengthy discussion, along with stats, that we get from TMP is always a good read with many good points, but it's not anything new for regulars on RWO.
Wasn' the Mongrel Punt talking about JMac? Not Tmac.....

My guess is that's just a typo - albeit a repeated one - by Ludwig. The gist of his post makes it clear he's talking about McInerney, not McCartin.

I dunno, I've never tried pressing it, so I'm a bit ambivalent?

Oops, more accurate to say Sam Edmonds stating Sam Reid signed for one year on Twitter.

I think they can be signed as Prepubescent Free Agents.

Yes. I meant JMac. Too many Macs, but I hope we get a PMac anyway.

Thanks for the scoop there, Molly. Its not on our site etc yet. A few more announcements to come including further delistings and Wicks (hopefully to finally re-sign).

                        According to SEN

PREMIERSHIP SWAN SET TO PLAY ON
BY SAM EDMUND 2 HOURS AGO

PREMIERSHIP forward Sam Reid will play on at Sydney.

The Swans will offer a new one-year deal for Reid after he was told to wait on a contract during the trade period.

While player and club are yet to agree of specific terms, the Swans have decided to keep the versatile veteran, who will next year embark on a 13th season at the SCG.

They’re assuming Sam wants to stay on after a lengthy delay

Do the rules still allow us to move players like Sam to the rookie list?

I think you have to delist and then Rookie draft them now, which gives another club the chance to swoop on them as a DFA or with higher Rookie draft pick.

If we do draft Corey, maybe we convince the rest of the family to move across, then the other brothers join the Academy, and by tge late 2020’s we’re all set with the modern day Danihers.

I’m not sure why there is even talk of trading without player consent - just won’t happen. It only has the go-ahead in sports/leagues where the salaries are astronomical anyway (eg. $1M plus for the worst players), where you can say “you earn so much it’s not unfair to ask you to move anywhere”.

If it was even contemplated within an AFL context it would be so limited it wouldn’t be worth implementing - eg. it would only be for players over a certain (high) salary, they’d have to be guaranteed a decent number of years at their new club, new club would probably have to pay a premium to cover relocation and other costs etc etc.

I think if you get Corey then the Chad go home factor disappears. The family feels like Sydney is their home. Looks like a good prospect and TheBloods endorsement of Corey encouraged my positive vibe.

I don’t know about the younger brothers. They may play other sports, prefer surfing or be into dramatic arts. They may be chess players, gamers, entrepreneurs or hard core academics.

Let them find what they enjoy. It may not be football like the two older brothers.
