A possible deal: 23 and a future 3rd for 31 and 39. Dogs would be expected to finish around the top 4 next year, so their 3rd round pick would be about pick 50. 23 and future 50 = 1088 points, 31 and 39 is 1052 points. Dogs would gain 237 points in this year's draft. Seems reasonably balanced to me.

Usually a move up the latter means that the club moving up gives up points. So if there is a swap, I doubt if a future 3rd rounder would be coming our way.

Your talking about the man behind the bulk of our last 2 premiership teams and the current one that just played in a final ?

If you define the number 1 as the bulk of the number 2, then I guess you're right. Beatson joined the Swans after the 2006 season, so I don't think he had much to do with the 2005 premiership. In any case, I agree that he's been a great list manager. He has made some unpopular moves at times, like trading Tom Mitchell, but he's orchestrated a 5 year rebuild that's transformed the Swans into the most exciting team in football.

Hey, if we win the flag next year, that'll make 2, and we you can score it as another prescient prediction. I'm all for that.

More discussion on Paddy Mac, stating how he can play at both ends of the ground. How former no.1 pick could provide Swans with ultimate flexibility (sen.com.au).

The other club i reckon we'd be in conversation with is Brisbane. They will need points for next year, given young Ashcroft is currently viewed as a potential no1.

If - and it's only an if - we eye another player we are super keen on available right after our first pick that we don't think will last to pick 31, would we flip the future first tied to Melbourne for Brisbane's pick 18 this year?

Again, depends how we view the draft, lack of exposure of players and fact next year apparently has more tall stocks.

Would really like pick 23 from the Dogs for our 2022 second. Next year we'll have two first rounders and the possibility of additionally up to three academy players. Should still be some potentially good players still available at that pick. Load up now!
According to the pundits, the picks from 20-40 are pretty even. Picks before 20 are outstanding. Keep what we have

In Twomey and Sheahan's mock draft they have Sinn, Goater, Wilmot and van Rooyen go in the four picks we slipped back and then we bid on Josh Fahey before taking Tom Brown: Road to the Draft podcast: 2021 Mock Draft (afl.com.au). Ouch! That 4 pick slide could hurt. I would prefer any of those 4 and I haven't heard enough to get that excited about any of the names around the mark of our pick if it's not one of them. That said, Tom Brown doesn't look bad (Tom Brown Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)) but is not nearly the defensive equal of Wilmot. Might we consider Sonsie? Taylor? Roberts (appears set to slide)? Would we even consider Leek Alleer? I'd be open to this although a bit of a wild card pick. Doesn't appear he'll get through to our next pick. If we hadn't picked up McAndrew and Ladhams we might have considered Conway but we don't need him any more. If I have to guess and those first four names are gone, I won't be surprised if KB & co pick someone altogether different.

Mock drafts seem like a good idea but they rarely get things right. I normally regard Twomey quite highly but he seemed fixated on our apparent need for a speedy half back. With Blakey, McInerney, Campbell and even to a lesser extent O’Riordan able to play that role, I don’t see the need. If Van Rooyen is gone then we should just take the best available mid. They’ll end up playing half forward or half back in their first few years anyway.

Is all the excitement on here about Paddy Mac due to his former #1 status, his bonds to brother Tommy Mac, or something more substantial that people saw in his limited VFL games last year? Trying to understand what sits behind the buzz on here.

I would say a combination of all three.

+1 wish id answered so succinctly.....
I'm going to be verbose now to add a fourth reason the Swans coaches and those in the know must be suitably impressed also from what they've seen of him in games and up close in training to negate his moment he'd like to forget when he was reported....a fifth reason is Ive noticed Garry Lyons who seems to always be favourable toward the Swans and is a commentator I have a lot of time for ...Garry Lyon seems to have a close friendship with the McCartin family and is always reporting how fit and well Paddy seems to be and what an asset he could be

Apart from an elite cohort it’s an absolute gamble. I would suggest we’d keep our two picks for next year.

Who really knows. Its likely we’ve got one or two players in mind we’d really like.

Warner got a good wrap from Sheehan. If he’s available at 25 we might try a pick swap with carlton to get in before the Richmond block and also west coast at 29.

Brisbane may well look at a bid on our pick 16 swapping out their first rounder next year, maybe offset by swapping our future second rounder for their 41 this year.

None of us really have a clue here and I will be intrigued to see our strategy.
