Great job all round, a real team performance. I think we will get tired towards the back end of the season, but there's a lot to like about this young team.

And the screams about the academy being 'unfair' are already resounding around Melbourne. Hopefully the AFL won't listen....

This is going to be an interesting- and fun- season.

And our sneaky coach saying 'this will be a good learning experience.' HA...understatement of the year....

Also what a way to celebrate the amazing contribution to the club by Bob Clutterback, and also Kenny's 92nd birthday too! Bet he enjoyed watching that!

As for the Academy.... the other sides CAN bid, they just didn’t do their diligence and underrated the Sydney players especially Gulden. Big sobs....

The stats show there was nothing 'flukey' about today - from the Age:

"The visitors ended up comprehensively winning the disposals 388-340, marks 124-79, inside 50s 61-47 and scoring shots 32-22, while they also had the edge in contested possessions 130-122 and clearances 31-24.

The top six ball winners were all Swans: Mills 31, Lloyd 29, Parker 29, Florent 28, Dawson 27, Kennedy 27."

The big numbers came from mainly the experienced bunch today, but that underplays just how good the young guys were, even though some 'statistically' didn't see as much of the ball as previous. You can see how the energy is flowing both ways in the playing group - the older guys must be buzzing seeing the next generation coming through, and the Cygnets knowing that there is a still an experienced core to guide the way, when invariably the going gets tougher!

I got a bit excited, but who can blame me. I covered the equivalent of 30 km by jumping up and down and fist pumps!

To be honest, I thought we’d be competitive but ultimately lose today. Couldn’t be happier to be totally wrong.
A great young group, with talent to burn. If we’d kicked a bit straighter it would’ve been a total annihilation, rather than a comprehensive pantsing.

Great win. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and the positive attitude of the Melbourne media and umpires towards us.

My only concern is that at some stage a team will come up with some tactics (shall we say thuggery) in an attempt to ruffle the feathers of our youngsters. Warner was BOG for mine. Goes really hard at the ball.

I can imagine that Eddie is making panicked phone calls right now to all his VFL 'influencers'.

Oh and I have to say - Heeney had a relatively quiet day today by his lofty standards. But what about that left foot kick from 45 on the boundary line. Is there anything he can't do - was just a thing of utter frigging beauty!

Although one really strange stat from today, is the tracker stat that says that Richmond ran a total of 267km today, while we ran 226km. Which is such a large discrepancy, that I'm wondering if it's actually correct? Especially since my perception of the game, is that we were constantly getting more numbers to the contests. Maybe Richmond were doing a lot of running away from the contest, to receive balls that never came? But still, it doesn't seem right?

Must have been to cover the overlap running and then losing their structure resulting in more running.
                          What a win.
They all seem to enjoy, play for each other, willing to pass and learn. What an incredible group ! Hats off to the coaching group and the trainers. For so many young players to have four quarter presence and focus is just unbelievable.

Going into this game I thought the Swans would be brought down to earth a little while still excited for the future. Game one was a team that didn't match the Swans intensity. The second was a game where skills let the opposition down. Didn't think that the Tigers would see either of these issues happen. But we all know what happened. A win - not just a win - a massive win!!

So impressive how these young players are in contests. They should be outmatched when facing older, presumably stronger players but the will is something to behold. Then you add the footy smarts and composure.

Game ended 1.5 hours ago - at 2:30 am in this time zome - and I am still buzzing.

Hard to imagine many games in April where Cheer Cheer the red and white was more deserved - and brilliant!

Mate wins like today must be extra special for the dedication of watching games at that time in the morning!

I watch a lot of EPL football (had some time in the UK years back) so know the hard work it is getting up at all sorts of hours to watch your team go around. But when they play like that - how can one not feel top of the world!
