How long until rumblings start about clubs keen on luring Anderson and Rowell back to Melbourne.

I reckon the AFL should introduce a Gold Coast tax whereby any club poaching a required Gold Coast player before they reach free agency status cops a 25% salary tax cap (ie an extra 25% on the contract they pay that player) for the whole of the contract or the time until free agency would have been reached, whichever is longer.

I actually reckon a similar kind of salary cap tax on any required player poached from any club before they've reached free agency is something worth thinking of, but some urgent action is needed to give Gold Coast a chance to build and keep a list that will enable them to establish something sustainable.
Great idea. Send it on, I reckon.

The AFL seem to have the intent with the Gold Coast, but yet not the wit.

(Hopefully they at least get that Touk Miller signature done.)

Finlayson for a future 3rd seems good business for Port! Although query why they need him? They've got: Dixon, Ladhams (maybe this makes it more likely he gets traded), Marshall, Georgiades all playing that tall forward role. Plenty of KPD depth too I think.

So Rory Lobb wants to go back to the Giants. I can see how living in the Peoples Republic of WA would get to you after awhile.

West Coast getting SPS for pick 52 and the Demons picking up Dunstan for nothing also seem like good business.

Rory Lobb might be attractive to GWS at a reduced salary but I still wouldn't pay much trade currency for him if I were them. And I certainly wouldn't want to see the Swans touch him.

Yes, Lobb always struck me as one of those "I'm not feeling it today fellas, so you go get the ball and I'll be standing over there, and
if you can kick it to me every so often coach will think I'm doing something" guys. A bit like Finlayson actually. I remember what was
meant to be his "breakthrough" game in 2016 where he took something like ten contested marks (which is more than a lot of players
take each season) and kicked a pile of goals and tore up Hawthorn. He has just never really put together a consistent body of work
as they say in the art world.

The locals seem pretty happy if the last state election result is anything to go by. Don't forget, not everyone squeals "LIBERTY!"

Lobb's just desperate to keep his mediocre career alive.

The Cats have extended Scott for an additional 2 years. My brother isn't happy and said he might as well go on holidays for 3 years and not bother going to any games because Geelong won't be winning the premiership!

Big call from the cats to extend him. While they might somehow eek out another finals appearance or two from here, I just cant see how they will suddenly turn it around when it matters in finals footy. Their list is getting older, older, older - their best players are nearly all past their best, and they look like leaking further young players that can't get a go this trade window. I think he is a very good regular season coach, but far from convinced about him in finals.

Yes that's what my brother says. The game plan works during the season but when it comes to finals it doesn't work because of the increased pressure. He joked that he wanted the club to sign Clarkson just to coach the finals.

Here's an "everything you wanted to know about ACL injuries but were afraid to ask" type of article:

They’re three letters athletes dread. What is a ruptured ACL and how do you fix it?

Most of the information comes from an interview with Nathan Gibbs. AJ gets a mention of course.

Interesting that he mentions as a risk factor, a genetic predisposition to weaker collagen. I have wondered in the past, if sports where height is often an advantage, like AFL and basketball, have a certain amount players who may be more injury prone, because they have weaker connective tissue. That is, weaker tendons and ligaments, tends to produce taller, but more fragile individuals.

Knowing the kneecapper's last game was being sliced apart by Bailey Fritsch is just delightful. Good riddance to him

I have been trying to evade the sports reports of his retirement because they keep showing the 2016 grand final ?.

Go watch the tide turning moments in the third quarter of the GF. Two goals in a minute for Fritsch then he was minding Pertracca before he bent one through. It’ll cheer you up no end
