Agree Liz
I was amazed how much Gould has shed.
If Gould is patient I am fairly sure he can play the Rampe type role ie having the flexibility to take on a small or a tall that needs to be nullified.
Comparing apples with apples Rampe got on our AFL list at 22yrs of age......Gould is only 20yrs of age......Gould is a fair way in front re experience and skill etc at the same age.
Plus just having a few pre seasons in a very strong squad that is evolving demands so much of u ????
We have so much competition for the top22 each week and so to do a few other squads around Oz.
Absolutely pumped to see how we can get out of ourselves in 2022."be tough, only when it gets tough"

In 2019 & 2020 we were a low scoring team. In 2021 we were a high scoring team. I believe, to win a premiership a team needs to be able to turn the pressure, forward pressure and clearances into scores. Several teams I have watched for a few years now are not high scoring teams. Four of them were top 10.
Firstly, I do not believe Cats can win the premiership on their scoring in the last 3 years. Same with GWS, Eagles. Bullies neet to up the scoring too. They are very low, compared to us or Melbourne. Richmond are another that really needs to find avenues to goal again. Maybe some new players.
ALL those teams need to improve thaie abity to score. What Melbourne did to Dogs in the GF was exactly what they are capable of. They score quickly and score well. Dogs had no answers because they are not a prolific scoring team. Once Dees got off the leash it was over. Mind you if they did not kicked straight in the first half they would have led at half time, 5.9 to 7.5.
The lower scoring sides do not put enough scoarboard pressure onto high scoring sides, even through they might be able to contain the damage against via negative play. I think Cats play a dreadfully boring style of footy. Same with Eagles. Dogs can be exciting but only for short periods as they do not have enough fire power forward. But that may change with D'Arcy coming in. They also lack a few top line crumbers too. That still needs to be addressed.
Those sides who are in the more mature bracket, Cats, Carlton, Saints, Eagles, Pies, need to get a wriggle on or rebuild. I don't think any of those sides have what it takes to win the Big One. Game style also counts a lot and Cats and Eagles are both in a time warp. Cats can keep you to low scores but don't really score themselves. It is a very negating style and very energy consuming. If the Eagles game style does not change they are in for a very sad year. I think Tigers are in the same boat. You can only go to the temple with the same offering so many times before the footy God's say Nah!

Hi all,
For anyone interested Charlie Rowbottom (sister of James) is making her AFLW debut this arvo. It is for the Gold Coast Suns.. but she is the closest thing that we have to a Swans player in the womens comp.. until later this year!!Comment

I may be mistaken, but I'm sure I read somewhere our current Academy captain is on the GWS list for this season as well?"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

If she goes through the season without getting a game, convincing her to sign with us shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't mind pinching Ally Morphett as well.Comment

Harley Balic, former Dockers and Demons player, has died: AFL news 2022: Harley Balic dead aged 25, former Fremantle and Melbourne player (foxsports.com.au). I remember his draft year and that he was a prospect that had been talked about pre-draft. I didn't really follow his career. From the article it appears that he may have suicided, possibly OD'd. It isn't stated but they always include the links to Lifeline and Beyond Blue etc when they're specifically avoiding mentioning suicide and that's what they have done here. Very sad. James Hird returns to the game with role at GWS (afl.com.au)
The thing I like about this is that once there would have been a lot more stigma attached to someone who had tried to take his own life. I think it's fantastic that now that he is presumably feeling better Hird is being recognised for what he has to offer. As for his role in the supplements saga, that is a whole other can of worms (especially in the context of having a role in 'leadership') but which is charitably not mentioned. All opinions are not equal.
