Champion football skills are very separate from unacceptable onfield indiscretions.
Without Barry and his elite play from 2003 - 2006 there would be no premiership. He was the key forward, he was the forward line ruckman, he was the physical battering ram, he was the protector and he made us all believe. He was the reason that Nick Davis, Ryan Okeef, Adam Goodes, Micky O and Adam Schneider were good forwards from 2003-2006. Hall made space for the other forwards, he drew coverage and he allows those guys to have one on ones.
And surely the work of Nick Davis, Ryan Okeef, Adam Goodes, Micky O and Adam Schneider and so many others actually got the ball into the hands of Barry? Without the brilliance of his teammates (who Hall’s presence apparently made them great) delivering him the ball and placating his rage episodes, I’d imagine Hall would just be an even angrier less productive forward - with one less premiership.
To be pedantic, Kirk was already a captain with or without Hall for the 2005 seasonComment

That’s a bit of a flippant attitude on king hits. Ask David Hooks about how they can change a life … oh wait.
Champion football skills are very separate from unacceptable onfield indiscretions.
No Nick Davis, no 4th quarter heroics against Geelong. No Bangalore hailing the brilliance of Hall winning us a premiership.

Davis, Goodes, Micky O, Okeefe and Snieder got so many more one on ones due to Hall’s presence. I believe strongly that the physical threat of Hall had defenders worrying about where Hall was and not about their opponents as much.
I’m not into this Captain Kirk stuff. To use a Star Trek analogy, Kirk during that press conference, treated hall like he was Khan. Barry Hall like Khan was effectively abandoned on Ceti Alpha V. Unfortunately Brett Kirk was no James T Kirk.Comment

I didn’t say that either Hall or Matthews king hit anyone in a pub.
You asked Nico if “Matthew’s wasn’t a champion because he king hit a few guys along the way”.
I said that “king hitting a few guys” was a fairly flippant attitude towards a violent action that can kill a person. KILL. If a king happens in the field of play (even if the player is niggled, or he has off field relationship issues, or for whatever incited Leigh Matthews to do it) and IF it happens to result in death - and we know that under the right (or perhaps wrong) circumstances it can - the champion will likely be changed with manslaughter.
I don’t know how I can make that point any clearer.
The rest of the piffle in your post I can’t be bothered with. Sorry.Last edited by 0918330512; 24 January 2022, 06:56 PM.Comment

Nico, what your saying is that Leigh Mathews is no champion because he king hit a few guys along the way?

No Barry, no 2005 premiership
No Barry, no Paul Roos leadership retreats
No Barry, no Captain Kirk
No Barry, no Leo Barry you star.
Hall and undisputed champion.Comment

David Hookes situation was trajic. Correct me if I’m wrong, I’ve never heard of Mathews or Hall getting into fights at pubs or night spots. To put Hall or Mathews in the league of guys who fight in pubs is unacceptable. Mathews and Hall got White Line Fever.

It was tragic, but here’s the correction. And I will try to make this pretty obvious for you.

Bangalore, to put their actions, if referring to king hitting someone, “in the league of guys who fight in pubs” IS totally acceptable. The tribunal deems it unacceptable to king hit someone. The long term repercussion of severe concussion makes it unacceptable, even if the recipient isn’t killed. Grab yourself a copy of the movie Concussion for some insight.

You don't get much right. David Hookes was king hit by a bouncer way out of the precinct of the hotel. How the bouncer got off a manslaughter charge is beyond most people's comprehension. He ran after Hookes and king hit him. Hookes didn't even see him coming and Hookes wasn't involved in an altercation. He was moving his players on to avoid conflict. To infer he was involved in a pub fight is downright insulting.
“Matthews king hit a few guys on the way to becoming a champion”? Pft! IMO it’s not something a normal rational person just does.Comment

Give it up already, you are never going to win the argument on this point. Before you find yourself popping out in Beijing at the bottom of your very deep hole."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Yep. Spot on. Despite my love for LRT expressed on another thread, BBBBH was more pivotal to our 2005 success. No Bustler, no 2005 Flag. It really is that binary. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

There are two options here:
1) Nico apologise
2) Mods, please wipe Nico’s post and my reply off as well.Comment

Sorry but this comment is absolute crap and only perpetuates the (generally unfair) notion that Swans supporters don't know anything about football. The idea that Hall was no more than a good average footballer is so hilariously wrong that you devalue any other contributions you might make. Flawed maybe, but good average footballer? He was arguably the most influential player in the entire comp from 2002-2005. Your comment is absurd. My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment
