It would be good to keep the core group of Rampe, Lloyd and Harry, together for as long as possible to anchor our defence, which they've been doing so well for a fair few years now.
The offer to Lloyd in part will be dependent on how Campbell, McInerney, Blakey and even Rankin progress. If some of that group (or all) are making a big impact, the club may not be compelled to offer any more than a 2 year contract. A rebuilding club on the other hand may be willing to offer 3-4 years plus coaching position on retirement a la Suns and Malceski. It would be tough to knock the later back..............

Agreed: Hayward and Florent are lifers.

Steady on Ludwig. He's a bit young for a migration to the Cats' list.

Inside Trading: Unsigned Dog Bailey Smith going nowhere, Dees look to lock in flag hero Charlie Spargo

The AFL site is suggesting that we can expect to hear about McInerney recommitting pretty soon.

Yes, he sounds very positive about it all at the Swans. Not surprised, as he seems very popular with his teammates and he can clearly play!

Brilliant news. Do people think that the Swans now will be more likely to let Lloyd (like Hewitt) go to free agency? With Blakey, J-Mac and Campbell we have some young and very talented half back flankers.

I would be very surprised if McInerney left - he seems so bonded with the group. However it was still pleasing to read him affirming his commitment to the club so strongly:

""Yeah definitely (keen to recommit)," McInerney said.
"I love it up here. I love the boys, I love the club and Sydney is a great place to live. We just go out there and we love having fun with each other. I'll be recommitting, yes.""
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

in a sign that I perhaps think about the swans too much I had a dream (nightmare!) in the last week or so that Jmac made a surprise big money switch to nrl.

I’m right there with you on his bandwagon. Absolute gun.

Definitely a nightmare IF, no dream like qualities to that!

Great to her he will recommit - I hope it is a long term contract in line with similar to what Heeney has (i.e. not just a couple of additional years). Broader salary cap management may dictate that not possible/desirable, but his key skill mix is very valuable.

The trend for young players with real upside these days is to sign up to FA, which means he'd sign a two year contract

Further to this, John Ralph on Fox Footy pre-game last night mentioned the above with McInerney and also that Florent has baulked offers from Vic teams to remain in Sydney, even though his contract hasn't yet been formulated. I also suspect a 2 year deal which seems to be the flavour?

He also initimated Buddy will play on next year and what that might do with our Salary Cap considering another host of stars (including Papley) coming out of contract next year. Jordan Lewis speculated Buddy will play for $500k - $600k.

Buddy made clear that as of now he wants to play on, in an interview immediately after his 1000 match. Was asked something like ‘does playing like this make you want to play on until you no longer can?’ (yes the question was convoluted) and Buddy said ‘Totally’.
