The way I look at it:

    • he has been a massive positive at the Swans in so many ways both on and off field.

    • Buddy probably doesn’t owe us anything - no more than he owed the Hawks, and less than he owes himself and his family.

    • however, Bud got $1M to sit in the coaches box in 2020 and gave us half a season the year before that. He doesn’t owe us for that (that was his contract) but he didn’t have to do a lot for money that he could/should have done a lot with

    • he is replaceable. We often play a lot better when he’s out - less predictable

    • the reports that he wants to play in another premiership? Our window isn’t closed. He might not actually earn a guaranteed spot in Brisbane’s side come Grand Final day if they make it. They have a fair bit of talent already, whereas we have built our game plan (to a fair degree) around Buddy.

    • neither Bud nor the Swans have come out and said anything about him going … yet. I take comfort from Gerard Healy’s comments on Sportsday. Healy (like Neil Cordy) - when it comes to the Swans - doesn’t get caught up in all the hype and often gets more sensible answers from the club.

    • not sure how comforted I am by Harley’s comments, however, as we heard similar responses about Dawson.

    • we have had some of the best years and highlights of Bud’s career and for that, I’m thankful. I, for one would like to see (at least) one more year of him in red & white - quite some time ago i postulated whether a one year extension at the end of his 9 year contract would be worthwhile - particularly at less money - and I still think on many levels he has a lot to offer the Swans (albeit likely in a different capacity). But I wouldn’t want to see the Swans sell the farm to see it happen.

    • ultimately, we as supporters, are often heavily invested emotionally in players, but have no say about player movement. For the club and the player, decisions will be made in each of their best interests. Hopefully they align in both our favours. If they don’t, Bud will be yet another player who moves on from us. There have been many before and undoubtedly will be many after. That’s football.

    • for now, Bud is still part of our charge towards finals in 2022. Lance, thanks for your service and the memories (thus far), best of luck for the remainder of 2022, and hope to see you in red and white next season.

I'm really disappointed Buddy isn't playing on with us. I would much rather him retire and finish his career with the Swans as it'll leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth seeing him at another club.

However I feel that with the young key position players we have, another year of buddy in the 22 would have possibly caused more problems than positives as it would cause one of them to miss games. I felt the same way with Goodesy playing on that last year, I reckon it cost us Membrey staying as Adam played that forward role at that stage of his career and blocked further opportunity for him in the senior side!

I would hate one more year of Bud to cost us Logan McDonald sticking around due to him getting frustrated at playing VFL for half a season so perhaps after this year it's time the Buddy Era ends at Sydney.

I just wish it would end with the big Bud retiring, not moving on elsewhere...

Does anyone else feel like there is a plan to disrupt our team heading into finals?

Warner pictures not recent just leaked out of nowhere.

Franklin telling Sydney he is off to Brisbane.

He hasn’t gone yet! Think O’Keefe. Think Papley. Guys who wanted to go, but didn’t. Then the umpteen more who were rumoured want away but signed quietly. We just need to be patient and have faith in a club that usually gets things done

Yeah, can't say that I'm convinced by a few sentences of unattributed and unverified click bait. I actually find it a bit disconcerting, the number of people who seem to take stuff like that at face value.

I distinctly remember Pul Roos comments on how to respond to a player intending to depart. I wonder whether he would have had the had the stones to drop Buddy into the VFL.

In any case he hasn't gone yet, and I for one won't be offering an evaluation of his time at the swans until it's actually done. Some would call i hindsight, but I think retrospectives work best retrospectively.

I'd be focusing on winning the next six games if I were the team and Bud. I think they probably are. It is actually doable if collectively
they want it bad enough and have a little bit of luck go their way.

Yes, I hope there are plans in place to ensure that everyone is focused on what matters. I'm sure there are.

I guess this is a downside to having a superstar at the club, the media frenzy when someone thinks they have a sniff of something. He came here in part to escape the fishbowl didn't he, but I guess he's just too big a name to avoid it, wherever he is.

It's annoying that we're going to have this speculation every week for the rest of the season now, with lots of important football to be played and the team set up well for finals. But it is what it is.

                    Life moves on, thank Bud.

Now hopefully we don't sign Martin and spend the money on a younger player who has the potential to make us better for years to come.

We weren't expecting him to go on beyond this year and in that sense it's no loss. Better than paying more than we can afford and later losing a young gun. We've got the depth to cover him.

All that said, this is hopefully yet another ill-founded rumour and he plays on with us at a price we can afford.

                        .

I dunno, the players shouldn't need to be told. Right now, there is one thing to focus on. And that is tearing North Melbourne apart.

Yes, I reckon a lot of this is to distract players from their most important task right now - beating Norf and beating them by a margin.

Let's not worry about what happens after the GF, let's get the most out of this year first. Whether a 36yo plays with us next year is irrelevant to our current task.

If Brisbane truly are talking to Bud, it just shows how desperate they are suddenly becoming in their flag quest.

                            Or until Bud re-signs

Are there more high priority (younger players) re-signing that might push a 35 year olds Bud’s re-signing a little further down the queue?
