Seems the Swans are the only team giving poor Fox and AFL career
id like to know what the TV deal did for wages going forward, id say decent rises in Cap the next few years, or at the very least some certaintyComment

I think the Swans will offer Fox a couple of years on the main list at a decent salary. I doubt if other clubs are going into a bidding war for a 30 yo that they they probably rate as a fringe player.
On another matter: If Buddy Franklin signs with another club for 2 years at around 600k, he would fall into the 2nd round compensation pick range before adjustment for age, a formula so secret that no one living or dead is permitted to know how it works. Would it be reasonable to expect that we would get a 3rd round pick, at minimum, for the great one?Last edited by Ludwig; 6 September 2022, 10:53 PM.Comment

I enjoyed his honesty about the ups and downs in the article posted the other day https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/...03-p5bf42.html
The delisting however did come after he played most of the games in season 2020 and did well, which was a very tough call - but if I remember rightly it was all a bit messed up too, as this article from the time suggests. (https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/we-we...ials-c-1654954
I'm sure he will get a reasonable deal - and I don't doubt a few other clubs might enquire too.
Just love how he goes about it, and it is unsung heroes like him, as much as the A grade players, that have put us in genuine contention to compete for the Cup this year."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

He might if we win the flag. Otherwise he could go another year, but we need the Amartey/ Logan combo to kick in sooner rather than later as it will take time. So not sure which is the best scenario- let’s just win the flag and then who cares?????Comment

As for the fabulous Mr Fox, locked in for another two years. Utterly well deserved.

That is the $100,000 extra might not be the sole or even a major reason if he moves to Brisbane.Comment

The Swans know how to play with him, and have had the advantage of gradually adjusting how he is used as his powers wane, while still benefitting from his moments of wonder. Any other club would have to learn how to best use him.
And since we Swans fans already love him, you'd think his marketing value is higher for the Swans that any other club. Their supporters would have to learn to love him (rather than just admire him from afar), while knowing it's just a short term thing for him.
That's why I struggle to see him suiting up for another club next season. And if he does, I can't see that it will be for more money than he'll earn at the Swans. He may have a strong desire to live in Queensland as early as next year, and still want to play footy. In that case, a modest contract with Brisbane might be on the cards. Or may move up there and hang up the boots.
Or he may be happy to hang around in Sydney for another year.Comment
