I have no doubt he's learned a lot about how to play forward, as well as about his own abilities, but in the longer term we might get more value for them in the forward line.

I'd also like to see Florent transplant his dancing feet out of the restrictions of the defensive zone and into the middle over the next few seasons. He's stronger. He's tougher. And he's learned so much more about operating in tight spaces. And for a player who's kicking (or decision making) was sometimes suspect as recently as a season and a half ago, he's recently been one of our most accurate kicks into the forward 50 on the too rare occasions he finds himself up the ground.
The Balta thing was just a furphy, but I agree that things can certainly change in our backline in the next few years.

If Gould can hold down a spot, he can effectively replace Blakey, even if Rampe retires. Blakey is a very flexible player and can play just about anywhere.

I think Florent settled into defence because that's where he's performed best. You would think that he could bring his great form into the midfield, and it might be worth a look. In any case, we have a ready made replacement in Cunningham and Sheather looked very promising in the games he played in defence in the VFL before he was injured. I can see Sheather as a medium defender in a couple of years.

It's hard to find spots in the midfield, atm. Sheldrick looks a natural inside mid and should be ready to go early next season. Campbell is just biding time for a sport to open up. Roberts and Hugo Hall Kahan can't be far behind. Both look AFL material.

With 2 first round picks this year, we should go into next season with a very strong and young list. There should be plenty of competition for spots.

Long term contracts are set and forget on the spreadsheet, particularly good when they are rock solid Swans to the core players like we've signed.

Liz, you mentioned possible future back line changes. We will of course have younger players needing to take up those running defender roles, so Blakey and Florent could well be moving forward. Now he's matured Blakey could become a nightmare match up as a roaming forward, Florent as one of the CBA's. You have to continuously improve and evolve, but haven't we come with a rush this year.
I don’t think there will be that much of a pull for Tasmanians to come back home . Make an environment so they don’t want to come back home , isn’t that what the bloods culture is all about ? Got to think the Tassie boys that might get drafted are just as close as a flight home as a drive home .
What I’m getting at is a Tassie side looks like it will be based out of Hobart . Not all potential draftees are from there [emoji6]

Melbourne out, so we get pick 14 as they are higher on the table than the Fremantle/Collingwood loser tomorrow.

Did we get anything else for ADL for Dawson?

So we finally have the Dawson defection settled, it was pick 14 for Dawson. Will become pick 15 on draft night after Brisbane match for Ashcroft at the top of the draft.

Pick 15 for Dawson after looking like pick 19 after round 10. Does bring another 4-5 players onto our radar.

Something I find interesting is the lack of any recent news or rumours connecting Sydney to trades, either in or out, while being in the finals hasn't stopped those other clubs being prominent in post season talk, especially Freo, Richmond and Melbourne. This gives me confidence that there won't be any big surprises on this front. I now expect both Lloyd and Gould to sign on.

With picks 14 and 18 we should be able to close any holes we have in our KPP stocks. Our midfield is so strong with very favourable demographics. Our current senior side doesn't include 4 midfielders with highly legitimate claims to a future AFL best 22:, Campbell, Sheldrick, Roberts and HHK. That's why I would place a focus on KPPs with our high picks. And fortunately, it looks to be a good year for KPPs in the top half of the draft.

It's hard not feeling positive about the future. Thanks Melbourne for helping out.

We need a ruckman in the draft.

Hickey doesn't have a huge amount of time left, Sinclair is retired and Ladhams ain't the answer.

Sort of feels like we hot Rowbottom for Heweett in a weird kind of way plus a pick 14

Will be interesting to see how we address this off season trade/draft period, considering the picks we have and the age of our list

Not sure what we have coming through next year in the academy but there is talk that some teams might look to trade out picks from this years draft into next year. Some elite talent towards the top but drops of considerably mid draft
I hope we can work out the seemingly bottomless salary cap of Richmond and Geelong so we can not only sign all our players up but add a few decent players also.
I honestly don’t think we will be big players with a priority to sign up what we have . But if we are going to chase anyone I wouldn’t mind having a look at Hunter Clarke from The saints.

I don't regard Landams as beyond redemption, there's been a notable amount of bad but some bright spots too. He's only had a single season with us, so he could turn it round.
I would expect us to pick 2 rucks, rookie or late selections in the main draft - but definitely not just one.

What do you think about Naismith and McAndrew? Is Naismith definitely gone? I assume he is - but I was wrong about the same thing last year. McAndrew was looking promising in the first half of this season, with real improvement compared to last year. But his games after returning from injury were uninspiring. He's taking up a Cat B rookie spot, plus he's tall, so we might persevere.

Ladhams has been undisciplined, but has otherwise played well.

Cal Twomey has ruckmen Harry Barnett as his # 26 in the Sept rankings. I think he's in play for our 2nd pick. Sounds like my kind of ruckman too.

Three spots on a list of 44 for 1 position is the max we should allocate for the ruck position. So if we do draft a ruckman, I'm assuming all of Sinclair, Naismith and McAndrew are gone.

That's the Ludwig school of ruck thought as at today's date (it's known to fluctuate significantly). However the Horse school of ruck thought is less volatile and bends towards lots of rucks. So I think that a max of three spots for rucks on a list of 44 is underselling it and I think we'll have more. Given how prone rucks are to injury and how they are less replaceable I think that's ok. Not sure we need the 7-8 ruck spots we've had at times in the past though.

We do have a few players that can spend a bit of time in the ruck too (Amartey, Reid, even McLean).
