It's been reported in the media (and this may not be completely accurate) that his (long) contract is for $1m a year, and that the Pies might be prepared to pay $300k a year (for some years? all years?) to get him off their books. That still leaves a club that takes him with $700k a year to fit into their cap.

I'm not quite as lukewarm about ruckmen as Ludwig, but I don't think there's any need to have them amongst your very highest paid players. Doesn't matter how good they are. The nature of their role and their size means they get injured. And you don't need a great ruckman to be a great team. You just need a competent one, with a couple almost as competent (and patient) in reserve.

I agree Liz but in saying that Max Gawn in full flight in the 2021 GF made things a whole lot easier

I suspect like a few key positions they really really count in the big games.

Yep and yep. Loved his game on Saturday. Now he has two flags left in him!

After the grand final, Franklin will need to play 23 games to take his games total at the Swans to his Hawks total, and thus 24 games to be have played more as a Swan.

Assuming no injuries or suspensions, that will be in our second final next year!

He can at most miss two games and still make it if we lose a qualifying final but make the grand final!

Would be great to see him reach that milestone too, if he is still playing good football each week!

His signing shows yet again how much hoopla and nonsense there is in the media. What happened to his move to live up on
the Gold Coast? His outrageous salary demands? In the end he re-signs quietly like most players do and normal service is
resumed. Just goes to show that when there is a reasonable amount of money involved there is only ever a few people in
the room. And talking about what is discussed in that room to people outside it just means you won't be in it next time.
