Think it was mentioned earlier in this thread that we were keen on him in his draft year but GC took him at 23 before our pick 25 Rowbottom, although I have an inkling we traded up to pick 25 to get Rowbottom, was it a future pick deal with WC? A true sliding door moment

McLennan four years at GC without debut. Twomey said this about him in his Phantom Draft 'McLennan is a roaming half-back who is good above his head and likes to chop off forward forays, before then providing some rebound for his side. Was a standout for South Australia during its under-18 championships'

It was the year we did the pick swap with West Coast wasn't it? Basically did some pick swapping to trade out of the second round, and then back into it, so we could avoid giving up our second round pick to get Blakey.

And so we ended up picking up Rowy as well [emoji846]

There was certainly talk that GC believed we were after McLennan and so traded up above us. But my recollection is that when our pick came around there wasn't much hesitation in choosing who they picked (Rowbottom), so even if they did have their eye on McLennan they didn't seem overly devasted to miss out.

I'm not sure what the club would see him in now, after spending four years not getting a debut in a team that has been poor to mediocre throughout that four years. And I've watched a fair few NEAFL/VFL games between us and the Suns and can't say that McLennan has ever been a player who has stood out as being one of the best. Even the loss to them a couple of weeks ago in the VFL semi, he didn't do much to catch the eye.

If we're talking to him, maybe it's about coming to play with our VFL side next year.

I think that type of move depends on the depth of the particular draft and what players we had a strong interest in. For example if we were really interested in multiple players ranked in the 20s.

Though I prefer to keep pick 14 to give us the best chance of selecting a player we really want.

But it is always hard to quantify. Last year we moved back from pick 12 to pick 16. So we had 4 less players to pick from. Which ended up being Chesser, Aleer, Wilmont and Brown.

Just a little curious regarding Daniel McStay | AFL

In our window 22/23.....would a player with his flexibility as a tall forward and or tall back be critical if we decided to not meet Buddy's reported higher demand?

Everyone keeps saying Pies but could we sneak in with a compelling offer?

Not for me. Personally I think he’s bog average and saves himself with one or two good games a year. Said last night, I’m stunned the Pies are about to give him five year, $600k a year contract.

It's why the Pies have cap problems. Also reportedly into likely Crows delist Billy Frampton with a three year contract!

For us? We've just waved pick 16 goodbye, pick 17 and 18 still up for grabs though, I like the latter

                        Great news about Pike!

Speaking of list management, I wonder if Judas Dawson will enjoy watching his old teammates play off for a flag while he spends his time in the off-season contemplating another season of finishing in the bottom four? [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

why aren't we interested in Grundy?

Because he costs way too much in dollars and draft collateral relative to output.

not if Collingwood pay part of the price. As much as I love Big Tommy, he's not got too many years left in him
