Wow! Awesome! That's good news for Logan, not so much for Joel and Hayden.

What's interesting to me is that Buddy has decided without waiting to see if he'll have a fairytale finish on Saturday.
I'm unsure just how this is good news for Logan.
How long is he contracted for?
As long as Bud is running free around the forward fifty, Logan is restricted in his running lanes, and has to defer constantly.
And, of course, this is as it should be. The guy is still whacking fifty a year and making space for the small forwards.
Logan is gonna really be something.
Those WA teams are loaded with money, it's his home town.
And they're gonna say, "it's your forward line, mate. Show us your best".
    And he will .
Against this prospect, he has another year of second fiddle, with his spot almost every week on the line.
Would his development be escalated if he was the leading forward?
2024 must be looking a way away now for Logan.
But a flag in his pocket might act as an anchor, too.
Hard decision for Sydney, and they've lobbed for Bud.
Hope they know better than me.
    Really hope.

i thought we had 5'10 FFs these days on game days just not on the team sheet?

half the game there is a small charging back or sideways in the 50 one on one

Bud playing huge minutes as a HFF

I don't think Logan is ready to be the #1 KPF and have the best defenders in the comp play on him every week, even if that would come with increased opportunities. He's much better off continuing to develop with the tutelage of Buddy and the pressure that Buddy takes off him on the field. I also think that Logan is mature enough to recognise this and from what I can tell he's really appreciative of the ways that the Swans are developing him. I'll be surprised and very disappointed if he leaves for a WA club although we'll have to watch out for godfather offers from the Eagles and we need to remain competitive in our contract $$$ offers.

Playing in a GF hopefully helps Logan feel more at home in Sydney. Jordon Dawson's enjoying a nice early break this summer, I bet he secretly wishes he was at the Swans, at least this week.

Doesn't matter how good they are. The nature of their role and their size means they get injured. And you don't need a great ruckman to be a great team. You just need a competent one, with a couple almost as competent (and patient) in reserve.
No one is more luke warm about ruckman than Ludwig. FWIW I agree to my very bones with you. Rucks need to be competent and vigorous - I personally prefer them (yes 2) to be in the Combative or Awkward classes respectively, but I'm not dogmatic about that.

I'm less sure it's good news for any of them, and I'm extremely glad Logan had already signed up before this announcement.

Bet all season he was secretly wishing he was still cutting loose on a wing at the Swans rather than being stuck on the Cows last line of defence as oppo teams continuously pumped the ball deep into the Cows D50.

I hate the Adelaide Cows and since Dawson's defection I hope for a finals free few years more for them so Jordan can enjoy September holidaze

I mentioned this before, but now with Buddy definitely on board next year, it's worth repeating that I think the best role for Buddy next year is Medisub. It would really elevate the role to bringing on a game changer if a player goes down injured. There would be so much more focus on the bench that the TV channels would have to bring in another camera just to cover Buddy on the bench.

I'm not too worried about Logan, Amartey and McLean wanting out. Buddy and Reid are probably in their final years, with perhaps Reid going one more in 2024 if he holds up well. Reid had an excellent year, but over the long run he does have a history of missing lots of games through injury. And Reid is also our next in line key defender if one of the McCartins is injured.

Even with Buddy playing mostly as the Medisub, there will still be plenty of games where he would be in the 22 for one reason or another. I would expect that even with this more limited role he would play at least 15 games. It's a good way to keep him fresh, especially for finals.

I would like to see 2 out of Logan, Amartey and McLean playing on a regular basis next year.

He is still a bit raw and so can only benefit from having Bud around. Understand where you’re coming from as he needs game time, which I’m certain he will be getting. Next year Bud may need to be managed so there will be room for Amartey too. If Gould gets his extension would like to see him play- who do you think he could come in for?

Buddy's re-signing doesn't affect Logan's position in the 22 and so has no reason to search for more opportunities. The people who are most at risk of leaving due to Buddy's re-signing are Amartey and McLean. It could be a Time Membrey situation all over again except I doubt that either McLean or Amartey will ever have the careers that Membrey has forged.

Ridiculous idea. No guarantee of getting on the ground. Better to do what Geelong has done with Dangerfield and Selwood and give him some breaks during the season.

Wouldn't put it past LM to kick 3 in the GF with Bud leading away to HFF

3 goals in a GF is monumental !!!!

When I said JPK should be the Medisub, that was called ridiculous. It's ridiculous until it becomes obvious. The 'threat' of Buddy coming on the ground is more valuable than Buddy actually being on the ground.

JPK was not in our best 22. Buddy is still a match winner. Won't happen. By all means let him play two thirds of the season to keep him fresh. Not much of a threat if you're trailing in the game and he can't get on.

There’s talk that the interchange will be 5 next year with no medi sub . Could be a reason why Buddy is playing on , could become a real burst player doing a lot of damage in short stints on the ground
