No worries goods53 - just having a joke. I hope it did not come across as mean.

            Cheers!

RE: Ratulogea, we already have two players on our list who are not quite rucks/not quite forwards, not sure there's any point in adding a third average option to the mix

I don't consider McLean a back up ruckman - not a great leap to start with. Yes Amartey could do this role as is definitely more agile.

Do we even know 100% both will be with us next year?

They are both contracted for 2023 so I doubt they're going anywhere.

I don't think McLean or Amartey are currently capable of holding a spot solely as a forward or as a ruck, that my change in 2023 but neither are certainties, I would place Ratulogea in that category as well

Given this, I see no real benefit in trading in a player who isn't an improvement on what we already have

It's an unpopular view on this board, but Peter Ladhams is our man. When he wasn't injured or suspended he has shown himself to be very capable, Horse just needs to work out how to play him in the same team as Ruck Jesus

Oh I agree on Ladhams - I think if he can focus better he is the No.1 man. Hickey may play 20-30 more games but I reckon that might be it. He has been very valuable to us. But we lose Sinclair and Naismith (IMO) so need 1 more back in somehow.

How on hell is Francis on our radar. Another list clogger, we have Melican like him, wont get a game.

It would suggest that Melican may be on the move elsewhere despite having a year left on his contract. One of the Trade Radio "experts " suggested that there was an expectation at Essendon at one point, that he might develop into a big bodied midfielder (he is 193 cm and 92 kg). However, he never developed the tank needed for such a role. Perhaps the Swans feel this possibility could still be developed as opposed to defence?

Talking to some Bomber supporters I know, they don't rate Francis. Having said that, they didn't rate Ted Richards either when we picked him up. The deal may never get done though given we are dealing with Dodoro. He will stonewall to the death of the trade period in the hope of getting us to trade overs for him. If he does this then the Swans should just walk away.

It confuses me a bit too but I trust that our recruiters have a plan and have seen something in him we have missed....and he'll come cheap.

You have to remember he has been in an environment which has not been noted for producing happy contented footballers. He has shown talent at times in his career and in the right environment, he may well flourish.

                          Fingers crossed.

If we're paying a 4th or 5th rounder and minimal salary for Francis, it's a free hit on a player who was an extremely talented junior. He could be Ted Richards or Luke Brennan, but if the cost is low in terms of picks and $'s it's not a big deal.

Perhaps he could play the interceptor role in defence and Paddy can become more accountable in the key defensive post. There were many occasions this year where Paddy ended up in a mismatch on a small forward trying to play that loose role

Regarding Ratugolea, Soldo and other decent ruckmen finding it difficult to get games at their present club: How do we attract such a player when they would be coming to the club as the #3 ruckman? It might be good for the Swans, but it doesn't improve their situation as far as breaking into the AFL team.

The same holds true for Jack Graham. How does he break into the Swans' midfield?

For a trade to be successful, it has to make sense for all parties. The Aaron Francis trade is sensible, as he's fallen beyond the fringe at Essendon and is looking to resurrect his career and the Swans are light on key position players when taking into consideration players likely to leave or retire in the next couple of years.

If we want to replace McAndrew with another developing ruckman, I think we will need to pick up a DFA or go to the draft. Once Hickey retires, we will be in a better position to get a more advanced ruckman.
