That quarter showed that a decent ruckman comes in quite handy. Amartey was only doing a small amount and the majority was left to Maguire, a young key position size academy graduate. Consequently, the Bullants had more clean entries and established a 32-14 lead. Stephens, Gould, Shipley, Taylor, Bartholomaeus and Clarke all did pretty well in that quarter.Comment

Very entertaining half - 9.5 v 9.4
Been impressed by Gould - good reading of the play and generally penetrating disposal, Taylor - busy and composed, Roberts - hard at the contest, but will be surprised to see him again this arvo.
Morrison & Shipley have been the best of the top ups IMO.
Melican has been steady, O'Connor surprisingly effective up forward, Clarke industrious as ever, but let down by his decision making.
With (probably) two players down and no ruck, we will be up against it in the second half.
Also got to mention the bare bones commentary is better than some of the vacuous self satisfied garbage you get with the AFL.Comment

Amartey was clearly struggling to even stand after that collision, but the ump was desperate to re-start play. I know they want to speed up the game, but where is the duty of care?Comment

I do like Clarke's work rate at this level. Always goes in hard, and I think going into the game, he was the leading possession getter in the VFL. Roberts was and Stephens had pretty good quarters. I do like how Gould uses it out of defence. Rankin and Warner had a few nice touches. O'Connor competed well in the forward line, as did Morrison.
I hope Roberts comes back out after the break, since the lack of a ruckman, means that we'll need all of our best ball getters.Comment

Dire quarter. Roberts didn't come back out. Wicks looks like he's limping around deep forward, possibly because we're running out of numbers on the bench. Frees now 24-9.Comment
