Great win, and despite the intonations of the TV commentary, we were in control the whole match. Collingwood were kept at arms length and were never going to win it.
The free against McCartin was ridiculous. The chase down by Rampe was ridiculous. The goal from Franklin after the tap on from Heeney was ridiculous.
We are right in this.

On Clarke, he is very good at his role, which is negating the opposition's playmaker from half back. I can't see him being dropped because of his questionable disposal when he is so good at what he does.

Whether the stand rule applies in this case is irrelevant as the Collingwood player moved forward over the mark, it should have been 50m penalty to Paddy. My take on what happened is that Paddy didn't hear the umpire call mark, saw Johnson coming at him, must have thought it was not a mark and hence to play on, and then played on.

This is correct....so the actual correct call as you say would have been a 50m penalty to Paddy, as the umpire knew it was a mark. It matters little that Paddy didn't know the mark had been paid because the umpire himself did. So the Collingwood players illegal movement came before Paddy's "indiscretion". Williamson is a bad umpire.....with an ego.....and a Victorian mindset. As most AFL umpires have.

That's my overall take on the incident too, having now watched a replay. If the umpire wasn't sure whether McCartin and Johnson both knew a mark had been paid, he could have stopped the game, reset the mark, pulled Johnson back and allowed Paddy to take his kick.

After going through all the comments and reviewing the incident on replay, I too think this would have been the correct thing to do. And if Meg is right on the rule interpretation of being a, or b, or c, then even without the mark reset, it should have not been a penalty. I think Williamson doubled down on his original mistake. I also got the feeling that the umps were looking for reasons to get Collingwood back in the contest.

As for Clarke, I think he's doing a fine job tagging, but when we have the ball, he is more of an obstacle than a participant. If the ball happens to come to him, it can end up going in an unpredictable direction. It would be better if he just ran to the sideline and got out of the way.

Maybe his defence is good enough to carry his shortcomings on offence. The best alternative would be to replace Clarke with Cunningham, who has played as a lock down tagger. In fact, he has tagged Brad Hill several times in the past. He's quicker than Clarke and can dispose of the ball properly. I would feel bad for Clarke if we dropped him, but considering the years that Harry has given us, he should be the one to go into the finals with us this year. And he is playing well in the reserves and looking ready to go.

At this stage of the season I can’t see Ryan being dropped for Harry . I mean a 100% win rate is a pretty compelling reason to be retained.
Harry may be quicker but Ryan is a workhorse that covers so much more ground and delivers so much value to the team in not what he doesn’t do well but what he stops our opposition doing well .
Don’t ever think that role players are under appreciated they are called that for a reason and when you have the coach saying that you are a smart player who knows what to do I think you are pretty safe.
Harry is 28 and at the end of his contract and as I said earlier this year we can’t carry him Dane and Jake on the one team.
Ryan is 25 and has learnt how to play his role and I think he will be retained Harry unfortunately I think will be given an opportunity to explore other opportunities.

Like most things in life the supporters were too easily influenced by the talking heads on our TV sets. I was also disappointed the young guy got booed.

One of my highlights from the game that seem to have been overlooked is this one where with about 7.30 or so to play in the first quarter Sam out positions Mason Woods and takes the ball from the throw in handballs to Ollie who sells some awesome candy and kicks to Lance who while standing in an attempted tackle hands off to Isaac who overshoots the handball to Dylan but James who is following up ( along with what appeared to be three other Swans ) gathers the loose ball and then handballs to Luke who passed to Callum who then finds Ollie who while dragging a Collingwood player along during an attempted tackle gives off a 20 metre handball to Tom who palms off a defender and goals leaving two Collingwood players in his wake crashing into each other
Why did I like this so much when compared to the other goals ?
1 ) It showed how much upper body strength our players seem to have developed over the last 12 months .Ollie in particular is now a ball of muscle and seems to be able to break tackles easily.
2) It highlighted how important and more specifically how smart Sam is to our team now
3) The willingness to run and carry and have confidence in your teammates was unmistakable. At every stage the Swans player seemed confident that someone would be on the receiving end of the ball movement.
4) It involved a few of our “ superstars “ who played in such a team orientated way during that passage that I can’t help but feel this is one of the best drilled Swans teams ever.
5) it made me smile ????

I don’t know if I would be moving him on but surely he will field offers with more upside than what we can offer ?
Also after watching Will in a couple of VFL games recently I suspect he is the future if we retain him and that Harry is behind him in the pecking order ?

Firstly Mason Woods plays for St Kilda and should have never been allowed on the field. But I agree on Sammy Reid being a completely different player this year and now is a very valued member of the Swans.

Gould is more of a KPD than a small defender. With Melican once again out with a hamstring injury, we don't have any experienced KPDs in the reserves. If one of the McCartins went down with injury, we would probably just reshuffle the defence and bring in Cunningham right now, but Gould would be more likely next season.

Our small defender (utility) reserves pecking order is probably Cunningham, COR (injured), Sheather (injured), Hugo Hall-Kahan, Corey Warner, Rankin. Our depth is good, but Harry is the only uninjured player with experience. Campbell has also played as a small defender, but he will more likely be a midfielder in due course.

The injuries, or lack of them, is critical. Most of the other strong sides have a number of them with key players but we are so far largely injury free. if you remember back to last year at this time we lost Lizard, Joey and Millsy which hurt us badly

Absolutely, would welcome him back in a heartbeat, and watching Stephens get the wobbles in that 3Q yesterday, he may be back before we know it.

Anyone notice on Friday night, Luke Darcy yet again calling Stevic "one of the best in the business"? As Deja said last week, it must be in his contract to say this......either that or it's just code for "thanks for 2016"

And during our game BT claimed the umpires were "three of the best in the business". I mean, are there any umpires the commentators
think aren't "the best in the business"? I've become a bit concerned this "best in the business" thing has become very diluted. To the
point now that it essentially means "pretty ****ing average".
