Hickey talked about the Bloods culture, how it is about having good people at the club, and how on a Tuesday night after the analytics session etc, there were all these people around playing cards together.

He also talked about his twins being in hospital, and he was going to see them, and he started to tear up. It sounded like the club has been really supporting him, and there is a family feel at the club which he has needed whilst he has challenges in his family life.

This chain of play sums up the night for mine. We of course got lucky with the slip in there, but the desperation and sheer will to make Melbourne earn it is why this team can go all the way.

"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

When Melbourne got on the inevitable run in the 3rd and it felt like it might just be slipping away, it was he and Mills in particular, along with Rowy that dragged us into it. They ground just a few minutes of utter manic football, stopped the momentum, and Melbourne never regathered it from there.

And I don't care what the experts say - Mills is the best 2 way midfielder in the game at the moment for mine.

On the subject of JPK - how magnificent to see his smile and genuine happiness in the change rooms in the after game coverage. It must be more than a little gut wrenching for him inside to be watching from the sidelines - even if he is fit, you can't see how he gets into the 22 (though he'd be some handy medi-sub!). But he showed every bit as much excitement as every Swans fan out there tonight - just lovely vision.
Spot on re Parker, Mills and Rowbottom. Absolutely outstanding.

Also great: Florent, Reid, Gulden (such a winner), Lloyd, Papley, Fox!

So as they kept interviewing Hickey, asking about his battle with Max, he started appearing forlorn and looked down, I mean to the floor, and was going to blurt something, stopped himself and said ‘I won’t talk about it’
However as he continued he welled up, and came straight out and said ‘Both my twins are in hospital tonight’ and followed up with :
“I’m coming home “ addressing his family.

          Teary stuff . Tough.

You mention being proud. It's the best word I have for Ollie tonight. I'm so happy for him to play like that in the biggest game of his life.

              What a fantastic team victory.

I felt the demons got slowly strangled by the pressure and lost confidence as the game went on. They had two beasts in Oliver and May who were outstanding, but the weight of numbers did them in.

I’m happy our defensive didn’t concede a goal in the 4th - the whole unit was playing possessed especially the double smother.

To think Hickey and Reid toweled up Gawn and Jackson.

Our pressure was off the charts. Unrelenting and fierce. Such a great team effort against a really good side. We've earned the opportunity to play a prelim at the SCG and we will fear no one. Exciting times.

Watching the highlights: I love Paddy McCartin. Sensitive, courageous, passionate. Imagine him collecting a premiership medallion.

I can imagine him collecting a premiership medallion as well as a Norm Smith medal. What a player he is.

Couldn’t have been McInerney as he was playing in defence. I’m pretty sure it was Stephens and I think he swapped wings to do so. As a left footer he would usually play on the left wing (ie if Swans were kicking to right of screen he would start on the far wing). Great game by Dylan defensively and offensively.

Re: the Fox smothers. Loved how it was McDonald who ended up doing the clearing kick. Must have busted a gut to get back there from wherever he was meant to be. Great effort.

I think Riewoldt was pretty pumped too. Might have been the turtle neck, but you could tell he was impressed by the effort.

I think the week off worked for us this time.
