And how to possibly improve a team that's won eight in a row. I've also noticed that there's no "Changes for next game" thread, which is also a good sign.

I've sighed a lot too over the past year.....but I must say, Dylan's form over the last seven games has lessened the sighs considerably. He's tracking very nicely now.

When he kicked that goal on Friday night, I thought 'Caleb who?'. Of course, that was before I saw Serong dominate in a final against the Pups. Still, we've made our bed and I think it will still be a comfortable one to lie in. Go Dyl!

Please don't criticize our recruiting staff by choosing Stephens over Serong. We have got Gulden at 32 and Warner at 39. Two of the greatest draft selections of all time.

          Completely agree.

I didn't feel Amartey did enough in reserves yesterday to really push his case - if anything McLean was the better player, and I can not see them picking him over McDonald, given he simply doesn't have the athletic ability to get around the ground in the same way that McDonald does.

I don't think Cunningham will come in either - at this point I think it would be a folly to fiddle unless forced by injury, outside potentially the medi-sub role.

On athletic ability, one interesting stat from the last match, was that according to the tracker, we ran a total of 292.7km, while Melbourne ran 281.7. Which is a big difference. And generally we've outran the opposition in most games this season. Which may be one reason why we have such a good record in fourth quarters.

Ok, it's not a medical diagnosis; just an impression based on the stress on his face, his tentative play and the absence of that exultant joy he's played with in the past. It's not coming instinctively.

That stat does not surprise me one little bit. It felt like a game where we ground them into the dust with our intensity and effort.

Just need to do it twice more from here!

Horse has long prioritised two-way running which has led to much of our squad brandishing huge tanks. Logan seems to have built his up to the point where his running and effort are real weapons, along with his general footy IQ and team mentality. I really like Amartey but feel Logan is a step above at this stage, playing an invaluable role that Joel is not as suited to.

On the Lions/Tigers goal review: "People need to admire the fact that the AFL can get things wrong in both digital and analogue forms, quite the achievement.

Agreed re: Amartey. But I do think if he remains patient, he will get first crack in the post-Buddy era to filling his place (Assuming we don't trade/take someone in the draft that is highly rated and ready to go, which is unlikely for a big forward). He has continued to develop well this year, and his abilty to contribute as a pinch hitter in the ruck should not be underestimated either.

I rate him well above Mclean, who I also like, but who I think has a lower potential ceiling overall.

Why sigh? If we took Serong we wouldn’t have Dyl. In a few years time we’ll be praising Kinnear’s master stroke.

And we probably wouldn't have Chad. Drafting for team balance seems pretty wise to me. I agree Serong is a good player, and seems like a quality young man, but it seems likely he has hit his ceiling early. Dylan will continue to improve, and that high quality endurance running is a rarer quality than a burrowing inside mid.
