Playing silly buggers with picks had very little upside and will p1ss other clubs of when next we want to trade with them. Looked a bit amateurish.

The true professional list managers can only sit back and admire what we've done. Like a good chess player would admire a brilliant move by an opponent. Our list management team did what they get paid to do, and they did their job very well. We can't always get it right with picking the best players, but we can play the list management game so astutely that it gives us the best chance of success.

We can only play the hand we were dealt. We squeezed the most out of a couple of late first rounders in a part of the draft that we were apparently ambivalent about. I didn't think we needed a small forward, but seemingly, Konstanty was the player we wanted the most, and we played our hand to get him.

Thought tonight was a win. Extra points for our 2 Academy kids next year and I've never seen a kid so happy to be a Swan.

I reckon Corey Warner last year has him covered. In Warner's case, we know he was thrilled to be drafted by the Swans, rather than just thrilled to be drafted. (Maybe Konstanty is extra-excited that he's coming to us, but we don't know that.)

For those doubting the wisdom of what we've done, you didn't get one of your sugar hits tonight but we've made sure 2023 will be a winner for us. Hawks could slip lower down the ladder and we'll have even better picks.

Sydney handed the Hawks No.18 in exchange for No.27 plus second and third-selections in the 2023 draft.

Those future selections are both tied to Hawthorn, meaning if the Hawks finish 13th again in 2023 it will be picks 27 (this year) and picks 24 and 42 (next year) for Weddle.

That would be the equivalent of Sydney gaining No.21 for free under the AFL’s points system.

Next year’s draft is rated extremely highly, with some experts rating the talent likely to be available in the 20s and 30s similarly to this year’s late first-rounders

Twomey had Konstanty at pick 16 so obviously a talented player. Question the need of a small forward but I guess with Ronke gone and wicks not quite looking the goods it could be a good papley back up

Not a Papley backup, there's a spot in the 22.

We were searching for a quick defensive small forward all year. Tried Bell, Wicks, Ronke and finally Clarke. None at the level. Reckon they'd ideally like Konstanty in that spot by September 2023.

I hope Jacob has a long and successful career with the Swans featuring a number of premierships.

I feel we missed a trick not screwing Essendon with a Davey Jnr bid, the same way we did the Giants and Adelaide.
Tomorrow I think we will see a new ruckman in Swans colours.

I hear that konstanty is a small forward that’s hard at it but all the highlights are him leading and marking. Seems more like a Hayward or Heeney type forward from those highlights. I understand they’re highlights for a reason but it also shows he has got some strings to his bow

Also the picks on Rawston and other guy were free hits, they knew GWS and Crows would match, and it happened at the right part of the draft

Perhaps we were less confident about Essendon matching a bid on Davey?

As for Konstanty

I think some RWO reaction may just be surprise. Mainly because few recognised that a small forward was a pressing need (myself included). It must also mean the Swans couldn't see any big defenders that merited our pick - or it's not a need.

Moreover, Its a little unusual for a small forward to be a first round draft pick, more commonly they're later picks or rookies of preseason picks. Breust, Milne, Betts, Papley, the Cats' Stengle and Close were both rookie picks I think.

In any case he seems a good kid, so he's welcome. The only knock on him that I could find was his kicking for goal, Zero hangers saying pre draft ". . . only netted a return of 17 goals for the season, with production and finish an area of growth for the teenager."

Apologies i could not resist the theatre of saying we recruited another Sam Wicks with our first draft pick last night lol. Flammable on a high stakes poker draft night lol.

So...... did we get it right or did we get it wrong ?????

For me I assess the player we draft with a first pick vs other options that i sense could be ten year player......yes waddle allen etc could be....but u could easily argue just as hard that Konstanty will be if not more so. I realise for some that it didn't feel right last night "probably because he was described as a defensive small".......but if we can obtain a decent next player at 27 we never would have got Konstanty. If we achieve that tonight we are winning massively hands down.

So is Konstanty straight out a ten year player? You could argue yes. His "runway" as the Americans like to say ie latent capacity is a 9.9 out of 10 as a new comer to footy. He influences a game probably more so than the other options that we had true options for last night.

He is a VC already and a leader and as a newbie great effort. As we saw with Guldens influence on a game and we see with Tom Pap ......these guys upfront are game changers and Konstanty doesn't need to play as a defensive small. That maybe part of his role in his first 12months but as we saw with Gulden they can be so much more immediately and the next 9 of 10 years could be a true Paps type role as we know it now.

Did we just increase our scoreboard hurt factor which will be critical to be a top4 team in 2023....yes I think we did vs any other options available to us in an around lat teen picks.

Have we stacked our trades and draftees to provide the greatest probability of success when in a window for a GF? Vs say a Geelong and their trades and amazing Jye Clark draftee.......NO not even close overall and draft night is still part of this puzzle.

Does this player potentially free up another key player to take on a more advanced important role in our 22 and make our best 22 in 2023 even better? Yes Gulden and Paps even more game time thru the middle forward rotation and a cover if needed when injury strikes key play makers.

As we all noted immediately on this thread we appear to be stacking the 2023 seaeon for points and or trade options. Another massive tick in flexibility in this draft and or next for bettering our squad in 2023 and beyond.

Stand by for a rule change at the draft, whereby if you bid on an academy or father son selection, and it is matched, then you must use that selection and can’t do a live trade.
