Yep....points 1 and 2 were out of our control but points 3 and 4 were issues that lead to point 6. It's as if they had faith that sticking with those issues would somehow turn things around. The coaches box definitely shares responsibility for today's events.

However, point 5 means we'll be back better next year. I think the 'mental scars' angle is being overplayed by some.

So go Swans in 2023....gutted but still love youse all. Keep the faith everyone.

The coaching staff did not change anything at all whole effing game. Clarke, who was smaller than Stewart, was retained on Stewart. He should gave played on either Toohey or another runner. Hayward should have played on Stewart. Longmire was a disgusting problem. He would, not change the team. I would have swung Clarke into the mids and sent Parker forward.

That would have created confusion in the Cats mids

Why is it that two of the worst losses under longmire by some distance have been in grand finals?

Just didn’t give a whimper.

I haven’t been through records to check, but 2014 & 22 would be two of the top three losing margins off the top of my head.

How did we have so many players down in one game?

I don’t expect us to make the 8 next year in the vein of Port, Crows and GWS.

We’re starting to build a compelling losing culture it seems.

Not good enough in so many parts of the game, unfortunately the most important day of the season. Feel for all the Swans supporters at the G who didn't leave. So many positives in the 22 season, we discovered our 22 side could match it with best except on this last day. Too many lessons to learn, too many players didn't perform to their best, they weren't allowed to by a Geelong team that were spectacular and so efficient. We couldn't stick our tackles, we couldn't take our possessions cleanly. I'm sure Longmire and the coaches learnt a lot from the game. Sad for Sam Reid whose season ended in controversy and disappointment. Not much more can be said. Thank you Swans players for the ride this season, you have been fantastic. Learn from this heartbreaking experience and go into 23 with a passion and desire that will take us one step further. Go Swannies forever

I’m at the MCG as I type. Listening to the Geelong supporters joy.

Classy of Chris Scott to recognise Swans supporters for staying for the presentation “even though they didn’t have to”.

Ramps, I appreciate that in your articulate speech that you feel the team let the supporters down. It sounded like you choked back a tear as you said it. Not a good result today, but for session 2022, you didn’t let this supporter down. If, prior to round one you had told me that you could guarantee that I could watch my beloved Swans in a Grand Final, but couldn’t guarantee me a win, I would have taken that offer.

I have bad days at work some days. But I’m never not trying my best for my patients. I will always believe that, regardless of the result, my Swans are always giving their best. Sometimes it’s not good enough. Sometimes, like today, it’s not good enough by a long way. But I will still appreciate your efforts, Sydney, in the context of a difficult game, a surprisingly successful season overall, and a lifetime of joy despite the results sometimes. Football isn’t always about the win and the loss as far as the joy it gives me. I get joy from the Swans in many ways. Today hurts the supporters and members. But I’m sure it hurts the players and coaches more. Much more.

And like 1996, like 2006, like 2014 and 2016, the pain will pass for me - eventually - and I’ll look forward to my next opportunity to cheer you on in a grand final. Because 2005 and 2012 were two of the best days of my life. And I didn’t have to wait 72 years for the joy.

Grand Finals aren’t easy to make. And they’re even harder to win (just ask our star studded sides of the 1933-1936 who, despite fielding the best players in the competition won just 1 premiership from 4 straight grand finals). This young side achieved a lot this year. I can only hope they continue their improvement over the following years for more chances.

Let's be honest the Cats were on fire

Selwood kicking a 45m banana kick for a goal......well that will do me.

Onwards and upwards for 2023 was my summary.

Whether we will have the experience and the muscle to win a GF in 2023 remains to be seen but we will be there there there abouts especially if we have half of Buds $600k as third party $ and we bring in another forward and or mid with strong experience and or ready to explode.

A fully fit Kennedy tagging a Dangerfield would have been interesting but it would NOT have changed the outcome of today.

In my humble opinion we out performed all my expectations to get to a GF without the experience of a team like the Cats.

We don't have the same blend that they do and that is bloody hard to beat weeke in week out let alone in a GF.

We shined bright to be one win off a GF.

Well done lads and looking forward to seeing how we blend our team like Geelong have.....ie they have been successul at via their trades to compliment their draft picks.

I suspect we still need a trade or two if we really want to finalise for squad for 2023 and another GF push !

I know I harp on about our centre clearance but that was the worst. A commentator made mention of it as they waltzed out of the guts with ease. We sat off our opponents in there hoping to tackle and hold. It's been nauseating to watch all year. You think they would have learned after the 9 goal quarter blitz by Carlton. Late in the game Gulden went in there and was competitive as was Warner. We have to put players in there who are prepared to put their bodies on the line. As good as Parker is, most of his centre clearances are scrappy kicks or errant hand passes.

Again today hughligted to me, the clear lack of, or inability to correctly prepare the team for the biggest game of the year. 3 x grand final losses under horse with a average loss of 55 pts.

Questions around preparing the players for the biggest game of the year needs to be answered.

Here we go, we are all right in hindsight.

When the honest answer is a flag winning 22 is still a couple of years away.

As for the crew saying sack Horse, Chris Scott has been a sustained finals failure for 10 years and they got flogged by 80 points in last year’s prelim, so according to your logic, the Cats should have punted him last year.
