Think the players will be hurting worst knowing what transpired yesterday .A very young group apart from Luke, Buddy and Dane - they can bounce back from this - keep the faith.

Mrs Tigers reminded me of what Michael O'Loughlin said after the 1996 GF. He wasn't that cut about it at the time,
because he thought the next GF he'd be in would be very soon and they'd win. He didn't realise how hard GFs are to
get into and it would take him nine years. Point is the younger players will move on from yesterday fairly quickly.
And the coaches will impress upon them that the experience is just part of their development of a player and they'll
learn a lot from it, and it will help them going forward. And they'll believe it.

Not at all, losses can be handled.
Not showing up at all and playing totally unlike the rest of the season is BS

But saying we'll miss the 8 and have a losing culture, I'm sorry, lacks gumption
Lacks gumption just like the team!

Seems there are some bad hangovers about this morning.

I don't think this young team will have one.

AFL moved the goal posts (for Sydney) after the Franklin deal. They want non-Vic teams to be competitive, they just don’t want them to win it.

All of the whinging about the team not showing up or lacking ticker is nonsense.

We did show up, the Cats were just way too good yesterday. Their team is old and battle-hardened, our team is young (super young) and still inconsistent.

Now compare that to our list. How many of our players have played 50 games or more? I’d rather be in our position now than Geelong’s. They’re old, their premiership window is closing- ours is just opening, and we have some of the best young talent in the comp. Hell, we were barely expected to make the 8 this year, but we finished 3rd (nearly 2nd) and played in the GF.

Some here need a reality check and be grateful for what was achieved this year.

I stayed off the website last night, too shocked and dismayed - this morning I've read the entire thread and glad I did.
A lot of people let their grief get the bette of them, and I don't just mean the doom merchants who are loading up on the team, the coach, the club etc.
I reckon those attacking the gloom merchants were also expressing the same grief, and in an equally misplaced manner.
But thus far this morning, the OTT stuff seems to have abated, and I'm greatly looking forward to a more considered discussion today.

I’d much rather be in Geelongs position as premiership winners in 2022 thanks.

Who knows what happens to our list from here. You need to take your chances when they arrive.

I strongly refute that Geelong were a better team than us, let alone by 81pts.

We’ve absolutely let an opportunity slip and it hurts.

I feel like I have woken up after a really bad dream. The shock on the faces of Mills and Longmire during their interviews yesterday suggest they are living one too.

It will hurt and stay with them a long time, I’m sure. My 7 year old son said during the last quarter that he doesn’t think he will ever forget this game. He is probably right. But, like it is my role as a parent to guide the development of my child and help him cope with disappointments like this, it is Longmire’s job to help his players learn from their failures (and his own) and grow as a team. I have full confidence that he can do this, particularly as his history following the 2014 GF disaster tells us this is true. He is an excellent football coach.

I am also reminded in all of this of the poem of Sir Andrew Barton, which was in part recited by Marv Levy, the coach of the Buffalo Bills after his team lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. He used the lines below as a way of acknowledging the pain they were experiencing, but also as a reminder that their suffering will not be the end for them as they will recover in time, and continue once more on their quest for the victory they seek:

"I am hurt, but I am not slain; / I'll lay me down and bleed a while, / And then I'll rise and fight again.”

Not so sure that we showed up. We were at least half a dozen snags short of a barbie.

No point listing the said sausages who had shockers. But, as good as the Cats were, I can’t explain the gap (which quickly became a chasm, & then a gulf) between the two teams without thinking we were completely overawed by the situation & just not switched on.

I’m feeling okay about it, however, & don’t feel there’s much to be gained from dumping on the team (or individuals). We made it much further into the season than anyone could have expected after ‘that’ Essendon game & played some cracking games along the way.
