To be honest Roadrunner TB has made his mind up about Rowbottom and there's no changing it. Even if Rowbottom won a Brownlow TB wouldn't want him in the side ahead of some others so there's no point in debating him (as frustrating as it may be) as we'll never see eye to eye on this one.

Very funny. It’s like what I saw last night when I went to where I knew I’d find a much needed laugh - the Geelong big footy Chris Scott thread.

A few well dones or I was wrong, but mostly - how many years did he waste by not listening to us on game style; it was all the assistant coaches; and if he doesn’t win the next two flags with that list he should be marched out the door and never welcomed back.

As others have said Geelong supporters are more generous and genial than most, but boy, there are some weirdos there too.

It’s a real shame that we saved our very worst for the GF. They deserved better.

I probably won’t read back through this thread as I suspect it will involve a lot of knee jerk emotion.

Thanks everyone for a great season on RWO. We’ve had some ups and downs ourselves on here. I’ll probs have a break for a few weeks and then get back into list management talk. Onwards to 2023.

In 2014, the Swans “stole” Buddy and were stacked. They were supposed to beat Hawthorn soundly and get another flag. They were humiliated. Yet they were back in 2016 to be cheated out of an orchestrated grand final (in my opinion). That 2014 was much worse than this. This is a team of so much youth that nobody had going this far. It is a team mainly under contract that seems to want to be here (maybe Papley but things are much different than when he asked for a trade to Carlton.) For better or worse, there wasn’t a lot of leadership in the squad to settle the team down… Buddy isn’t that guy…Rampe is kind of a jokester and Parker is just quiet. There wan’t a Hanneberry or McVeigh. Mills is still so young and he is being thrust into that role. Some of the Swans havent even grown into their phsyique yet. Trust me, this is a team that will play finals the next 5 years and maybe until 2030. This team was also built the right way…part of me expects Collingwood to fall back to earth next year. This loss has to burn, anger and mainly EMBARASS them. Good. Now the new leaders need to arise (Mills, Heeney and I believe Blakey have thw ability to get into that roll quickly). They now know the pain. Hopefully that pain turns into focused anger, which I believe it will, and a vow never to let it happen again.

Ignore the folks saying this loss has destroyed this team’s soul…it won’t. You don’t learn from success. And they got one hell of a lesson. Now watch what happens next year.

Hehe. Yep, some unhelpful comments for sure. It’s okay, though, this is the only place I’m looking at for comments on the game - I can’t read or watch any news items just yet. I can only imagine what’s going on in other forums. It won’t be nice.

I’ve been thinking about the footage of Paddy after the prelim & just the emotion & look of disbelief that he was going to the Grand Final. It’s a stupid footy cliché, but I reckon we played our GF that day. Bugger.

First line is as expected. Otherwise I think your post reflects the kid in the toy shop who sees only the bright, shiny new look toys. Great hopes for the fun they’re going to bring. But dismisses, because they’re only kids, the burnished, much loved ones at home who continue to provide what is required. Fine for the new guys to earn their slots. Not fine to dismiss the valued, efficient guys who got us here. Time and effort will sort all this; it’s not a matter of discarding old for shiny untried new. And shows little respect for the incumbents.

One other thing changed....we recruited Tippett and Buddy and became the hated. It was always going to be hard from that point to win on the last Saturday in September.

I swear we've had our papers stamped "Never to win the flag while Buddy's a Swan"....it certainly feels that way. I was happy and sad when it was announced that the Bud was going one more year. On that score, I'm really conflicted.

Yep, there's certainly some Swan 'supporters' with myopic memories....and a lot turn up here mainly after losses. Funny that....

Not why we lost, and Geelong certainly didn’t need any help, but Meredith and Stevic pulled out a classic performance.

The Swans had shown on several occasions during the year that they were capable of insipid performances. It appeared that things might have changed during the 9 game winning streak, although we didn't play well against either North or St Kilda, but still managed to win. But thee were signs that we could come out and play important games well below our best.

We almost dropped the Collingwood game, not looking much like a champion team in the 4th quarter. Our defence wasn't at its best that game. Our ability to score in the first 3 quarters kept us headed toward victory. We easily could have lost that game, and then we wouldn't be talking about our poor record in Grand Finals. It's a fickle game.

We came out and played the kind of game against Geelong that we played against Gold Coast back in May, and on several other lackluster occasions . We were all shocked on here about those unexpected insipid performances as well.

It just so happened that we had one of those games in the biggest game of the year. We did everything wrong. Geelong were at the top of their game. Even the umpires were piling it on. We were all shocked, but sometimes nothing goes right.

We have to address why we had those shock poor performances during the season when the whole team looked off. There's something not quite right with our preparation. Whatever that problem is, it happened in the GF, so our disappointment is quadrupled..

There is no getting away from the fact that Geelong were the best team in 2022, during the season and on the day. We never had a chance. I'm not going overboard about the size of the loss. If we really were the 2nd best team in 2022, then there's much to celebrate. I hope our coaching staff are good enough to identify and address the problems for next season. There can't be that much that needs fixing if we ended up 2nd. But we certainly can get better.

I think I have the answer to our problems. Obviously what we need is for Pikey to organise a tough character building pre-season camp!

Yep.....i heard we dropped into an infamous yoga studio in Bondi prior to heading to Melbourne

I also heard we did a group meditation in first class on a domestic flight instead of listening to music or playing cards between Kingsford Smith and Melbourne Airport.

Yes, I think we did....and even then we looked quite knackered in victory. I was concerned going into yesterday regarding what we had left in the tank and was secretly relying on another Geelong finals choke for victory.

This experience can only make our players stronger, more hungry and better equipped to handle ...well, everything.
