Well with the game on the line in the 3rd we capitulated.
For me that loss will reverberate within the team for a few years. Possibly the worst I’ve seen us play. We couldn’t control the ball or the general play.
I don’t think there has been a team that’s bounced back quickly after such a comprehensive grand final thrashing
If they are truly on the up, it will light a fire in the belly of our players to come back and do better when it matters.
If not, then 2023 will be bad.
And for risk of lighting a fuse - should we really have signed Bud up again?

I’m at the MCG as I type. Listening to the Geelong supporters joy.
Classy of Chris Scott to recognise Swans supporters for staying for the presentation “even though they didn’t have to”.
Ramps, I appreciate that in your articulate speech that you feel the team let the supporters down. It sounded like you choked back a tear as you said it. Not a good result today, but for session 2022, you didn’t let this supporter down. If, prior to round one you had told me that you could guarantee that I could watch my beloved Swans in a Grand Final, but couldn’t guarantee me a win, I would have taken that offer.
I have bad days at work some days. But I’m never not trying my best for my patients. I will always believe that, regardless of the result, my Swans are always giving their best. Sometimes it’s not good enough. Sometimes, like today, it’s not good enough by a long way. But I will still appreciate your efforts, Sydney, in the context of a difficult game, a surprisingly successful season overall, and a lifetime of joy despite the results sometimes. Football isn’t always about the win and the loss as far as the joy it gives me. I get joy from the Swans in many ways. Today hurts the supporters and members. But I’m sure it hurts the players and coaches more. Much more.
And like 1996, like 2006, like 2014 and 2016, the pain will pass for me - eventually - and I’ll look forward to my next opportunity to cheer you on in a grand final. Because 2005 and 2012 were two of the best days of my life. And I didn’t have to wait 72 years for the joy.
Grand Finals aren’t easy to make. And they’re even harder to win (just ask our star studded sides of the 1933-1936 who, despite fielding the best players in the competition won just 1 premiership from 4 straight grand finals). This young side achieved a lot this year. I can only hope they continue their improvement over the following years for more chances.

Cats too good .. no point blaming anyone .. just need to give credit where credit is due.
No matter who we would have put in ahead of Reid/McLean we still would have been trounced..... Umpiring decision cannot be blamed for this .. we certainly were not good enough. Hopefully our younger players will learn from this and come back better next year.
Great year from Warner, T McCartin, McInerney, Gulden, Stephens, Rowbottom, Blakey, Florent and Hayward. These guys are all 23 years or younger. That is great. Not to mention Campbell, Amartey, McLean, McDonald (again all 23 years or younger) Hopefully Will Gould wil step. There is a lot of upside despite the gloom after being smashed in the GF.
Despite our sadness, congratulations to the players and the coaching staff on a great season.
Onwards, and hopefully upwards for next year
Anyway much like the sentiments of others on here I'm grateful for the season.. the performances of the younger players and those senior ones as well. If you would have told me that we would have made the Gf at the start of the year I would have taken it. Go Swannies and hoep they retain their payers and have a good trade period!Comment

Now the time to start putting together a song called Geelong's Magically Expanding Salary Cap. Then sing it at the next game vs Geelong, in the style of the Barmy Army. Those barmy lads that follow the England Cricket team around the world know how to get joy out of disappointment. We could learn a few lessons from them.

quarter last week. Obviously it's very disappointing to finish this way, but to me following the team every year has always been
about the week-to-week of the season. Going to the games and watching the away games on the TV with the family. And blahing
on about it with friends during the week and even on here. It's fun. The finals and GFs are just a bonus and always a bit of a lottery
to be honest. And really we're lucky to be able to do this. Not everyone can.Comment

Truly love the Bud but what are we going to get for our $600,000 + next season? Into finals but maybe not much beyond that? It's a worry.Comment

Not making excuses, but the Sydney teams in particular have to deal with a lot of crap. Yes, the got Buddy when Buddy wanted out of Melbourne. But for the most part, the Swans and Giants have to rely on their own talent... they don't get guys clamoring to go to Sydney. They don't get Dangerfield and Rowan demanding trades (or Papley at age 23 for that matter...) And when guys want to come, like Daniher, it seems like something always gets in the league...
We have been saying it for years on end...they need to change the free agency rules and stop giving in to players demanding to leave.Comment
