I gotta say, I didn't hold much hope for McAndrew from what I had seen before today. Perhaps it was the fact that he's been played mostly as a forward in the reserves and didn't look that great in the ruck last year.
But from what I've seen today, I definitely think he has a future and has improved a lot over the pre season.
From memory, Gawn looked very ordinary and uncoordinated in his very early years, but around this age and beyond he started to show the potential he could become a dominant ruckman in the future that he ultimately came to be.
Could we be that lucky and find a diamond in the rough like the Dees did? Time will tell...

I think McAndrew is still developing. And continues to work on his skills and game sense. I can't judge his ruck work. But seeing him ruck against Ladhams and Owens in training. You can see what a big unit he is. He is taller, solid but also reasonably mobile for his size and willing to get stuck in.
Even if ends up being a 2nd/3rd ruck on our list. He is still only 22. And grew up in Sydney so less concern about him being poached after a few years of development.
I thought Owens also did ok in the VFL match. He was able to ruck for most of the game and get around the ground well. But Owens is a much slighter build at this stage.Comment

Playing the Bears in a trial gave us good intel
It was interesting to see how a more diversified approach to recruitment ie trading in seriously experienced players such as Dunkley and Gunston plus a drafted emerging gun Ashcroft would make to and already formidable team.
Last 3 seasons they came 2nd , 4th and 6th last year but only one win behind the Swans pre the finals in 2022 despite finishing 6th.
So they are in a window but prioritised bolstering immediately to maintain the rage.
Equally I thought our midfield still looked hungry and there there there abouts.
Looking forward to watch our 2nd trial"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I also thought McAndrews did well, and maybe he will be as successful as our other Rugby convert. No shrinking violet, me thinks.
I was also impressed with Will Edwards size and mobility - excellent 'big man' potential (and a Sydney boy as well)Comment

My £0.013 (I’ve moved to the UK) it’s impossible to judge a teams relative standing from preseason games, particularly with the Swans who know premierships are not won in February.
However I think they can be a valuable guide where individual players, particularly new recruits are concerned.Comment

In the presser I think Horse snuck in a Dean Cox mask. ‘AFL is relentless, we move on quickly, he did what he needed to do, etc.’ . Just waiting for a ‘it is what it is’ and ‘we only worry about what we can control.’Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

I need new spectacles as according to the write up on SEN, Ladhams went off with a sore calf and had to be replaced by McAndrew - THAT'S when Brisbane got on top!
Says all you need to know about Vic based media, pure amateurish parasites on the gameComment
