They're clearing filming it from a corporate box, you can see the windows of the box and everything.Too many disposal errors from us at the moment, that last one where Rankin called for the ball from a Owen mark and then handballed straight to the opposition was particularly egregious.
Wasn't a bad quarter I guess, but we have been punished for some inexplicably bad turnovers coming out of defence. Warner possibly our best. Owen has been more involved than usual. Morrison and Hall-Kahan have had some nice touches. Edwards has taken a couple of decent contested marks.
Seems like McCartin has set himself a possession count as a KPI this afternoon. A few times he’s been completely on his own in defensive fifty and called for ball to be kicked back to him from the wing. I don’t think the team as a unit is skilled or quick thinking enough to make retreating that far backwards to switch a viable tactic. Nor is Tom himself a particularly creative or penetrating kick.
Thankfully the last time they ignored him and proceeded to move the ball forward.
More generally, every time a player takes a mark they are getting plenty of advice from a dozen other players. Pretty much all of it of the “kick it to me” variety.

Rankin has had a terrible quarter. It didn't take him long to get back in the delist column.
If a player runs a few metres, gets tackled, drops the ball, picks it up, runs a few more metres, gets tackled once again and then doesn't get a disposal away; then surely that's holding the ball?

The only “surely” when it comes to the officiating is frustration at inconsistency and the calls mostly favouring Victorian teams.
I remember doing a season analysis one year some time ago and we only won the free kick count against one Victorian team that year, and that was the Dons a couple of years after the drug saga when their brand was mud.
Every other Vic team won the free kick count against us, or drew in 1-2 cases over the entire season.
Our defence really isn’t very good at basic defence. With one genuine AFL quality tall, two experienced VFL talls plus one developing tall who is occasionally good, they really should be better.
And whatever we make of Gould’s limitations that have prevented him taking the next step, surely the most damning is that he turns the ball over too often with simple, unpressured, short kicks where he has an open target.
Such an awful display from both sides and the umps as well. It's really hard to gain any development when the game quality is so poor. You would think they were playing with a sea urchin instead of a football, the way everyone is dropping the ball. Our defenders, including McCartin, are just not competing.
Warner is having a very good game and HHK had a few good moments. Otherwise, hard to find many positives.

I do wonder what percentage of the umpires in the VFL are Victorian and what percentage are from QLD and NSW?
Pretty dire quarter, where we lost almost all cohesion moving the ball. I really hope the umpiring is better tonight. 27-13 at three quarter time. We're leading the tackle count 49-40, but it seems that the majority of holding the ball frees are going to Geelong. Probably the highlight for us was the tap work of McAndrew.
