Waswan I’m not sure anyone is suggesting to take over his $1m plus media reported contract. Rather the opposite take over half at best. He is not worth more than $550k per season max u could argue at his age.

Lake was a 30yr old….who was in and out of the shifty Dogs AFL team and not nearly as consistent as Haynes but went on to win the Norm Ssmith Medal with in two years at the Hawks…….who would figure?

I’m just curious is there a short term inexpensive draft pick / minimal trade option that maybe give us what we need to counter the serious teams that have superior back line to us?

Doesn’t have to be Haynes. But someone of serious experience and dependability to complete our defence next two years while in a window of opportunity to compete again for a top4 spot and contest a GF?

Our trading is already disastrous. In the last week we’ve missed out on HH and Barrass, both of whom were looking good to come to us. Either quality players don’t want to come to Sydney anymore for some reason (in which case it’s being sold badly to them) or we’re not offering enough. Maybe it’s time to let Kinnear Beatson go.

Nick Hayes would be a good deal if we can get him for say $600k for 1 year, $400k second year. He's the intercepting defender we need.

I get all that but if he is owed a reported 1.2 or thereabouts, GWS arent paying half that for 2yrs.

I cant see us getting him cheaply and them 600k out of pocket

Haynes $1.2m is for one year. When Geelong did the Bowes deal last year they stretched his existing deal out. So we could in theory try to turn $1.2m into two years at $600k and get GW$ to pay some of it and/or chuck in a draft pick

Bowes was owed 1.6m for 2yrs and essentially given a 4yr deal at about 400k to smooth it out.

That would be different to a 31yr old owed 1.2m, less incentive for him to smooth it out.
He could easily just take his 1.2m next year and go free agent at 32 somewhere for a year or 2

If Stephens did go to North, what would he be worth? Could he be used to get someone like McKay?

Alternatively, what would he be worth to NM in straight draft picks? They have picks 2, 15, 39 etc. Surely pick 15 might come into consideration as we used pick 5 on him.
