Once the year is done, and it almost is, we should try players like HHK to see if they are capable of rising to senior level. Buller and Arnold need to be given a try but remembering they are new to us and aren't at senior fitness levels.

If you know what pieces you may already have at the club, it means you can better target trades in and the draft.

We might see if we can prize Barras away . Would most likely cost us our first pick with maybe an exchange of other picks . Richmond pretty keen on HH and Geelong on De Koning
Rumours floating around again of Papley wanting to head back to Melbourne
Would like to see us have a crack at trying to get the No1 pick but not sure if we could get it done
Going to be a big off season for us one way or the other

A useful resource: Sydney - trade and draft history

        Trade history (players in):

2011: 3 trade (Armstrong, Morton, Walsh)
        2012: none
2013: 1 RFA (Franklin), 2 DFA (Derickx, Laidler)
        2014: none
        2015: 2 trade (Sinclair, Talia)
        2016: none
        2017: none
2018: 2 trade (Clarke, Thurlow), 1 DFA (Menzel)
2019: 1 trade (Taylor), 2 DFA (Brand, Gray)
        2020: 1 trade (Hickey)
        2021: 1 trade (Ladhams)
        2022: 1 trade (Francis)

In the past 12 years, we have signed only one free agent (Franklin) and traded for 11 players.

        Free agents from 2011:
        Code:
        Adelaide: 1 ??
        Brisbane Lions: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Carlton: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Collingwood: 5 ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
        Essendon: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Fremantle: 3 ?? ?? ??
        Geelong: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Gold Coast: 5 ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
        GWS Giants: 1 ??
        Hawthorn: 3 ?? ?? ??
        Melbourne: 3 ?? ?? ??
        North Melbourne: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Port Adelaide: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??
        Richmond: 3 ?? ?? ??
        St Kilda: 3 ?? ?? ??
        Sydney: 1 ??
        West Coast: 2 ?? ??
        Western Bulldogs: 4 ?? ?? ?? ??

It would be a nice change of pace if we were able to pick up a free agent or two this year. We've only ever picked one (and actually got punished by the AFL for it).

2011: 3 trade (Armstrong, Morton, Walsh) -- Dud, GF hero, Dud
          2012: none
2013: 1 RFA (Franklin), 2 DFA (Derickx, Laidler) -- Legend, Dud, ok
          2014: none
2015: 2 trade (Sinclair, Talia) - Ok, Dud
          2016: none
          2017: none
2018: 2 trade (Clarke, Thurlow), 1 DFA (Menzel), Dud, Dud, Dud
2019: 1 trade (Taylor), 2 DFA (Brand, Gray) - Dud, dud, Dud
          2020: 1 trade (Hickey) - Good
          2021: 1 trade (Ladhams) - ok
          2022: 1 trade (Francis) - ok

So I make that 1 legend, 1 worth it for a flag, 1 good, 4 ok, and the rest (ten!) were complete nuffies/duds.

We turned a few journey-men into stars before this, and havent been able to do it again. New strategy required.

I am sure Ludwing would disagree and say we have had two Legends and include Derickx (as a Legend of fashion/style!)

I don't get the love for him. He is a @@@@e forward, hence the play him back because they have better options forward. Is he a top quality back. He could be that intercept back. But as a shut down defender, I am pretty certain he is not that

Arnold has been playing Lions Reserves. He will have the same fitness level of the Lions listed players

Let's play Arnold and see how he goes. If he's decent it could reduce the need to bring in Himmelberg on big dollars.

Cats interest in TDK has waned recently. I have been watching Gettable for some weeks because I am interested in their thoughts on him. They say Swans are frontrunners for him. He is leaving at this stage, that is their info.

Barrass has a 5 year contract, a new child and just bought a new house. If we could possibly pry him out of there we would have to pay the majority of the contract if not all. Add to that hus age. He is 28 next year. That would take him to 32 in his final year uf we match West Coast contract. Plus, he would want at least 25% more/year, if not 35%, due to house prices and cost of living in Sydney. I doubt he would bother.

I think HH will either stay or go to Melbourne and sign with a Vic club.

Word is Cats are offering Swan Darcy $1million/year, so TDK off their radar

Gee I'd love to have the TPP benefits Geelong can deliver, so to allow it to offer money like that.

HH should remain our no 1 target in my opinion over TDK.
