They do mean something if a player is on good coin and doesn't want to uproot himself to the other side of the country. Or if he has a partner described as a "Perth socialite" and two very young children.

Garry must still be on the swans payroll. Took out Cameron, as you say,.and then treated the swans game like a final (ie. Went missing).
        Thanks Garry.

We can add Buller to the list of players who can do some ruck work.

I don't think we will be chasing TDK. Ladhams looks a better #1 ruckman.
And we're all forgetting that we also have Owen. Which is understandable, as his form has been quite forgettable. I think he's on a one year rookie contract, so he probably has to improve rapidly, if he's to run around next season.

I'm also keen on Caleb May from our academy, so I think there's a good chance that he'll be added to our list. So, even if we just go the minimal change of swapping May and Owen on our rookie list, while keeping our other rucks, I also see no real need in spending money and picks to get De Koning.

The two clubs tipped to be “aggressive” in this year’s trade period (sen.com.au)
The article discusses possible trades by Sydney and Geelong.

I've seen your reports on Caleb May and thought the same, i.e. swapping him and Owen. Have to see what the end of season list looks like.

The big improvement I've noticed from McLean in the ruck is that when he gets his hand to the ball, he actually tries to direct it constructively. He's had a few lovely hit-outs to real advantage, ones that have set a team mate moving forward.
                  Ah yes, apologies re May.

But that’s part of what I referred in talking about McLean’s good hands. He’s a good mark and can fire off a quick and smart handball in general play when up forward. He’s now learning to use his deft touch both in the ruck contest, as well as quick handballs at the contest when necessary.

I know I’m a bit rosey-eyed about McLean, but I think he’s whole hearted and learns quickly.

Two different types. I suspect that Owen was something of a speculative ruck pick, in that he doesn't seem to be very good at rucking, but has enough athleticism for his size, to have had the recruiters thinking that he was worth a gamble. Whereas May gets plenty of taps to advantage and is quite skilful in traffic, but has a top pace that's slower than the large majority of draft prospects. Hopefully that can be improved with a solid pre-season, that includes plenty of sprint training.

Agreed on McLean- he’s improved this year and earning his spot. He strikes me as a player who needed quite a bit of time to adjust to AFL level and he now feels like he belongs- similar to young Campbell. Let’s keep in mind that talls can take a bit longer to mature and reach their peak in their late twenties.

Re: Hickey- one year extension for sure but at this stage still our best ruckman. Needs to improve his kicking for goal though, like last year!

But for Heeney made or broke us

                        Remarkable his kicking this season

I think that Heeney has been playing injured for most of this season and this is affecting his kicking for goal.

Exactly, still amazingly underwhelming and lacks impact, which is why that stupid early season talk of 8 x 800 was unfathomable. Maybe KB fed the journo's that for a laugh
