    1. Barrass is significantly better player than any of the other key backs being discussed. As a pure fullback, he is streets ahead of Ratagalea and McKay and lengths ahead of HH. However, if you want a swing man then that's a different story. I'd prefer Barrass over the others and would be willing to pay in draft capital.
    2. Barrass is currently 27 not 28.
    3. We've been the least active team in the high end draft space for years. I have no problem trading good draft picks for established players. There's also a big difference between pick 5 and pick 10 so let's wait to see where we finish before we make too many judgements.
    4. Cleary is not rated in any of the "power rankings" I have seen. Some mids like him just don't get the love. Adam D'Aloia is an example of a ball winner from South Australia who made the U'18s All Australian team last year but went undrafted.
But he’s 28 this year and will be 29 in his first year with us (if it was to happen) are we sure this team is good enough to cash on him now ? I think our list is extremely overrated and still have a lot to prove

Without some key talls that are experienced and quality at their role it is highly u likely be able to compete in in the top4 in 2024

That would ve a real shame give. So many of the pieces of the puzzle solved already

Ruck and KPD must be the priority

Another tall forward to replace Bud and Reid would be nice also

Reid showed great value in 2022 along with Bud when we finished 3rd on the ladder

Very true, I just can’t see McLean or Amarty as regular contributors, good depth players but I think that’s there ceiling (I could be wrong)

We also need better clearance mids or better clearances from the existing mids (I’m optimistic about Sheldrick) and I reckon another small forward.

He turns 28 in October meaning his first full year of playing for us he will also be 28. Either way, you obviously don’t rate him. I’d prefer others too but this isn’t fantasy football and so out of the seemingly viable options I think he is the best that would walk into being a major part of our 22.

I am really hoping the same with Sheldrick there’s something about him

I think we are right in the hunt over the next few years. We haven’t had the year we wanted this year but if you drill down, we actually haven’t been that far off. Our contested ball has been poor and we’ve had heaps of injuries but we have actually been in most games in his year but fallen away late. That screams young midfield. 2024 and 2025 we are in the frame.

28 in his first season with us. Rampe has been signed to age 35.

Rampe, is a very rare player and
                    Far more versatile than Barrass

I really hope your right, if that’s the case a player like Barrass should be a priority- his best is AA quality

Rampe isn't costing us draft capital nor I suspect much cap space with a two year contract handed out. The second year would probably be more depth related and a coaching role from the playing list not counting in the footy dept cap

Can't see Barrass uprooting his very young family to the other side of the continent, think this is more Vicmedia shooting the breeze to fill airtime/column inches

                          How about a different Barrass… or an addition to. Dylan Stephen’s for Denver Grainger-Barras. A pick 5 2019 for a pick 6 2020.

I still hope Dylan Stephen’s makes it with us but both players aren’t getting a run but have shown talent.

I haven't been following the career of DGB, but he had 0 possessions today. I think he has been in and out of the seniors.

                                We need experience in
……….to balance the gigantic experience out

Or is that the wrong way to look at what we are loosing and what we hope to gain to solidify a top 4 spot in 2024………we haven’t drafted and hopefully traded this hard to fall outside the top4 I. 2024 have we?

We have gone deep in drafts to be a super solid team havent we?

                                Bud games played 350 plus

                                Reid games played 180 plus

                                Hickey 150 plus

                                Paddy McCartin 8 seasons

                                Etc
