Mmm, indeed. And here some of us were speculating about delisting Stephens.

If he were to be traded, and multiple Victorian clubs were interested, what could we get back?

Apparently TDK has signed a two year deal with Carlton, with the headline reading it ends “months of speculation”. The key word being “speculation’.

Stephen’s would have very little currency, disappointing but you can’t win them all

Barrass season over with a compressed back fracture.
That would have to put some doubt in that chase

          Hopefully now Naughton

Reid, Paddy, Johnson, Naismith. Barrass’ injury history fits our player list profile perfectly.

For me we can function with Rampe, Tom Mac, Fox and Blakey playing as “talls” but against the best of the best we can not control a game with those 4,as our “talls”.

Not being able to control a game is a bit of a lottery every week but it significantly affects how you attack and defend.

We need another tall in defence that can truly cut of the dangerous long kicks like a Steven May does for Melb or a Darcy Moore for the Pies or Stewart for the Cats etc. As we have all seen these types of elite defenders can play one on one in pagans paddock and still dominate. This allows all other defenders to push up field squeeze space and time.

This type of dominant aerial defender just makes such an incredible difference to the way the opposition attacks you. The opposition knows they cannot push higher up the ground with out worrying about getting a plus one back in time to the rebound of a dominant aerial key defender.

That is such an advantage in controlling a game and full throttle in attack.

I know you can’t have everything but another key defender that can truly go one on one and win an aerial battle…….plus another ruckman would be minimum for me this trade period.

We may have to make do with our attack and tall forwards. I know it is not ideal loosing Buds strike power with out a tall replacement

I've heard similar to Sam Edmunds report, that Barrass has committed coming to us & just matter of working out trade at season's end.

As pointed out above, not sure how this injury news will now affect our commitment. Expect at least a full medical report which is standard practice.

Despite HH making noises wanting to stay at GWS, we might not be completely out of the picture yet, as I think of Jordan Dawson who said similar.

I never get this argument of "must try him". Coaches try players all the time in the VFL and in training. If they are not performing in these situations, why should they be gifted a game at a higher level, at the expense of another player?

There are some (although I can’t think of an example off the top of my head) who perform better at AFL than VFL level. Admittedly only a small percentage.

And to be fair there are a few players that have struggled to hold down a regular spot in the AFL, with the Swans. who’ve gone elsewhere and been very successful; AA being the most glaring recent example.

Aliir played 36 out of a possible 40 games for the Swans in his last two years. I'd call that pretty regular.

It's also a bit of a stretch using this as an example when discussing giving Harry Arnold a go who has played a grand total of 6 VFL games for us. We've won our last two games with a settled side for the first time all year and people want to "give people a go".

Fair enough. If finals are out of the picture (which could be as early as next week) I don’t see any harm in trying anyone, but I agree now is not the time

Allir did not want to leave the club, but the need for a ruckman was obvious. Allir had been tried in the ruck and was clearly not suited. The club in their wisdom, rightly or wrongly, saw this as a priority. The jury is still out as to whether this was the right decision, however up until the grand final most of us thought it was the correct decision. It’s kind of ironic that our priority right now is an intercept defender.
No one should forget we did play off in the GF last year
