For good reason. Each AFL club’s intercept mark kings. (sen.com.au)

"The Swans aren’t as statistically prominent in [intercept marks]." An understatement. At the end of the article it ranks each club by number of intercept marks taken this year. Sydney is ranked 18th - dead last.

Another error in hindsight has been the loss on Newman. All we hear is the need for defence... we have GIVEN away AA, Newman, Dawson( not a back i know, but he was) we are our own worst enemy.

The jury is still out as to whether this was the right decision, however up until the grand final most of us thought it was the correct decision. It’s kind of ironic that our priority right now is an intercept defender.
No one should forget we did play off in the GF last year

Who are you leaving out for Newman ? AA is not a loss he can’t defend one on one (Dawson I cry about everyday massive loss)

Great question. A lot of people seem to forget about the player who needs to be delisted/dropped.

Back's up the negative that he misses too many games, although I think he's a very good player when on the field.

The trouble is you need him out there if he is in the squad. He spends a lot of time sidelined

We helped Newman's career by trading him. He wasn't in our best 22. Solid player but no error in letting him go.

I agree. He was fab for the Blues last night, but there is nothing over the course of his career that suggest he would be best 22 for us right now.

Does anyone else feel our list should be ahead of the gWS list?

Yet they are 5th on the ladder.

Not really. GWS have a very good list, something that was overshadowed in their poor 2022. Great defence, Whitfield, Kelly, Green, Ward in the midfield. Greene up front.

Our lists are very similar. The 2021 season perfectly represented our strengths.

Buyer beware for HH. The Giants had a forward line of Richardi and cadman, and still HH wasnt moved forward. Not much of a swing man.

How many first-round picks are on GWS's list?

                          Fair points.

Does that mean that GWS have done a better job building their list than we have?

If so, what can we learn from how they have achieved a better list then us?

How can we go to the next level next two seasons and surpass their list build?

Who says it’s not ? And no I think we are building nicely, this off season is potentially the most important for a long time in regards to trading in players.

Ps I alsways enjoy how much thought you put into your posts and your genuine passion

I’m not sure I accept the premise entirely. They are 1.5 wins ahead of us, will be 0.5 if we beat them next week. We lost to them by a single point earlier. Small margins.

They’ve certainly performed better under their new coach. I always thought the previous one was a bit of a dud.

We’ve underperformed this year, I think it’s reasonable to say largely because some key players from our list have been unavailable.

This weekend is demonstrating just how little separates teams this year.

The Derby should be a cracker next week!

Not sure GWS have done a great job building their list. With 5 players on million dollar long ended contracts ( Whitfield, Cognilio, Kelly, Greene, Haynes ) there is not much room for anything else. Admittedly they had no choice with the wolves from the south constantly circling. It is no coincidence this year that they have had the key midfielders fit and playing well for the first time in a few years.
I am sure GWS have learnt a valuable lesson for the long term as a result of this, but it does show the need to manage the salary cap, and this applies to all clubs
