Whatever they want, except a swap for Errol...

McQualter is reportedly Demons-bound: Andrew McQualter leaves Richmond Tigers and Punt Road after missing main job.

Francis and Arnold came in 2023
        Didn’t really cut it though
Hence a little more juggling KPDs in and out of the backline in 2024

I mean how cool would it be to release Blakey from continually having to assist the talls. Imagine the lizard let free, just like when Rampe and the two Mac brothers were tieing down tall forwards in 2022 (except for the GF) and he was roaming.

We also can’t rely on Melican to be injury free nor Rampe. Dane is definitely in that age group where there can be periods of the season that injury strikes with greater frequency as we have started to see for him last season and now 33yrs old.

Reidy might do another year but is extremely injury prone and more a swingman for periods of a game in defence - too slow for a whole game against a tall quick forward.

Gould might be able to do a Rampe style transition but I just can’t see it as a high probability just yet.

Arnold and Francis are possibles at helping but don’t seem like obvious choices either to partner Tom and Dane long term.

Foxy definitely can help vs certain line ups that fit his flexibility of roles but against a Brisbane and or Pies on the weekend that would have been a tough talk assignment.

        Ruckman x 1
        Tall intercepting defender x 1
        Contested mids x 2

That’s pretty much the menu but there will be NO gratuity and very lean no doubt on what we give up if at all.

It’s value hunting time again for our backline I suspect……..given the KPDs so far not coming to the Swans.
Surely Gould is out the door.

If the Oliver talk is true, we need to do whatever it takes to get it done! Grundy and Oliver in would be massive! Trade next years first rounder if we have to, along with whatever else they want!

Let's hope he's very good friends with Jordon and Grundy and asks to be traded to the Swans! Would fix our contested ball issues overnight!

I hear the passion to solve our contested footy and all makes sense above re Oliver probably having a strong impact and especially combined with some felllow dees

To bring Oliver would bow out our salary cap you would expect given the future upgrades that will be required on a fair few already in our 22

            Errol
            The Chad
            BJ
            McDonald

These guys will become very well paid players very soon

North and Hawthorn probably could afford him but I suspect we can’t vs retaining our home grown guns of the future

Oliver is a top 3 mid in the comp, possibly even top 2. I hear what you are saying, but other than Errol, there probably isn't a player on our list more valuable ATM than Clarry.

I know Logan is obviously the other one we would consider untouchable, but at the moment, he is still just a hope that he'll be a star, it's not a lock just yet.

              Clarry IS a star.

Something worrying here. (Besides didn’t Kinnear make him cry before his draft?)

Melbourne open to trading Oliver for the right price amid frustration and concern from teammates

Yeah he did apparently. It seems that didn't affect his football the next 8 seasons though.

I mean hey, Aaron Francis was selected two picks after him, so we can take some solace in the fact we have him on our list! Lol

Carlton trading in Chris Judd got them nowhere important. Not because Judd didn't hold up his end of the bargain but because a star player in an ordinary team gets you nowhere. And they threw in a very young Josh Kennedy as steak knives in the trade.

What would people be prepared to lose to get Oliver? McDonald is the first player I reckon Melbourne would ask for. And then maybe Chad or Errol. Even if we didn't lose all three, our ability to retain them when their contracts next expire and West Coast, Freo or Carlton coming aknocking would be diminished.

I'd rather keep those three and back a gradual development of a more even midfield from our still very young group.

I heard we have made an offer to Hamling and he has accepted this. However I cannot find this mentioned in any media. Can anyone confirm this?

I love Oliver and rate him as one of the best in the comp, but I’m with liz, the cost to get a player like him who isn’t a free agent would be way too high

I would trade Chad for Oliver comfortably. I wouldn't trade Errol and don't think he'll ever leave so not concerned with the contract.

I would definitely also rather not trade Logan but I would consider Amarty (who I rate) if they asked for him.

I seriously doubt it will even happen though so it's all hypothetical at this point.

I don’t think we’re that far away if a few of our youngsters continue to develop and we can get some cheap reinforcements in areas of need (ie Grundy)

As good as Oliver is, to get him in would probably involve 2 first round picks and one of our top 5 young players. It’s a massive risk and basically involves tearing down what we’ve spent building up over the last few years

Reading between the lines I think it could be a case of buyer beware with Oliver . Been lots of rumours all year about him , not saying there true but sometimes we’re there is smoke there is fire . You don’t want a player to move in with the captain if everything is rosey.
If it cost us one of Errol , Chad or Logan it’s got to be a no !
