General footy chat Round 10: the other games. Doug Nicholls round (part 1).

One thing that I always enjoy about indigenous round is the new lot of jumpers; which often feature some stunning artwork. This season's selection is no exception and it's hard to work out a personal favourite. For me, it's possibly the effort from GWS, while the Adelaide one continues their tradition of coming up with something excellent every year, but they're possibly overshadowed by the striking design of their neighbour, Port. I also like the dark blue Melbourne jumper, but I'm not that keen on the baby blue version. And on colours, the St Kilda jumper is an interesting throwback to their World War I colour scheme of red, black and yellow: while the shades of yellow ochre and brown ochre certainly is an improvement on Hawthorn's traditional mustard and turd. Anyway, I'm sure most people will have different favourites.

Every club's stunning Indigenous jumper: Which is best? Vote now

And on the matches, I'll just say, that while I can see the reasoning of people who say that our season is done, I don't really agree. I mean, we're 3 and 6, but back in 2017 we were 0/6 and still made the finals. So, foolishly optimistic me, is thinking that if we win our next two games against the equally struggling North and Carlton, we then go to the bye at 5/6. Then, assuming that we suffered no significant injuries in those wins, we should get a few troops back during the bye, and then, who knows. Of course, a premiership win is unlikely after barely squeezing into the eight, but I'm not going to give up on our cripple's crusade just yet. Anyway, the reason why I mentioned that, is that our position tends to change my preference on which teams that I might want to see win. That is, I may start to prefer wins for teams at the top of the table, over teams that we will have to climb over to reach the eight. For instance, I probably now want the Lions to beat the Suns, when usually it would be the other way round. Strangely, I don't think there's another game this round that I can also use to demonstrate that point, so I'll just finish by saying, that I think tonight's clash between Port and Melbourne should be an excellent and intense game, while Hawthorn and West Coast will not.

Think I could be leaning toward the Port or Richmond jumper this year, but they are all spectacular.
I might have had a grizzle about this same time last year, but if there was one round where we could probably dispense with the sponsors' logos surely this is it.
They are more than jumpers. These are works of art. What other artwork would agree to having a hungry jack's or kfc logo slapped on it? It only serves to taint something quite beautiful.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

I can easily see a few upsets against those odds. Adelaide to take out the Cheats, who I know have been winning, but I don’t think they’ve been playing brilliantly; and GWS to confirm the Saints were experiencing a false dawn.

Essendon are suffering a similar malaise to us. Very hard to win with so many players unavailable (and with a shortage of key defenders in particular).

Good point. Although I noticed that the Hawthorn jumper has Lutrawita on it, instead of the usual Tasmania. So I now know what the indigenous term for Tasmania is.

It leaves me feeling uncomfortable commending hawthorn for anything that they do, but this is a step in the right direction.

Clayton Oliver has been pinged for throwing the ball 3 times in the first half of the Power/Dees game. Where were those umpires when the 2016 GF? was being horrifically officiated??

Best game of the year to date. The contested ball has been unreal.

Magnificent game in v heavy rain. Both teams gave it everything .
Simon Goodwin immediately dashing over to shake Hinkleys hand . That was pretty magnanimous right there after a pulsating contest

Yes, it was a great game but I reckon that, although they got a positive run from the umps early, the Dees really copped it in the final quarter.

If ever a game proved that umpires drive momentum it was that. Melbourne in the 3rd. Port in the last.

Yep - the comp needed that I reckon- a good quality game where you couldn’t look away. I’m sure Collingwood supporters are enjoying themselves but for most of Therese of us it isn’t shaping up as a classic season so far.
