There has been a bit of talk over the weekend that both Hawthorn and Collingwood are making a late push for Logan, apparently offering up to $200k more per season than we are. Now whilst I do take this with a grain of salt, I also want to say that whilst it may be an unpopular opinion, I don't think we should be overpaying to keep him.

Whilst there is no doubt he will be a good player and possibly very good, what we have seen so far suggests he might not be the elite key forward we are all hoping he could be. Our style of play doesn't rely on a dominant key forward kicking bags of goals and the way the game is moving, to win premierships I would argue saving that extra money to throw at Warner would be more important for us than paying more for Logan (2 of the last 3 premiers lacked a dominant key forward).

Call me cynical but this smells of Hawthorn and Collingwood probably knowing he is keen to stay at the Swans but wanting us as a key rival for premierships over the next few years to fork out as much as possible to create more of a salary cap strain for us moving forward.

Fox has just signed a one year contract extension. I'm happy he's still with us as I think he really brings some flexibility to our squad. I'm still waiting for the big news on Logan. Hopefully it happens soon.

I didn't realise he was 31, one year contract makes sense and as people have stated he's very flexible and has done some pretty handy roles over his journey.

Logan is still developing....but it has to be said.....slowly. He shows great signs at times but Amartey has passed him.

I really want Logan to stay and am hoping he doesn't see Amartey's rise as a sign to seek something better back home.

The delay in signing a new contract with us is a worry.

To not have two tall mobile / reasonably athletic forwards would make it easy pickings for opposition defensive structures.

McDonald is a key piece for us unless his price is so high and or we have a compareable trade. Logan really is great leading away and down the ground...............plus is a great kick on the run / give and go when leading away .

I mean Hawthorn would be offering quite a trade for Logan ......... which is serious trade currency...... BUT I dont think we would be out bidding $ on any other talls to trade TO the Swans/

Logan is doing a heap of work off the ball and lots of running to broaden his game, something you need as a key fwd nowadays, Jeremy Cameron is the standard.

If you leave him in a square and expect him to focus on Goals, he develops like Jye Amiss, if it isn't in his hands he may as well be in the crowd

Also think, whilst it may not be signed just yet, the Swans give everyone their sunshine, last week was Will and his 150, Amartey and his 9 gls, Fox and his new contract... They will wait for a bit of Daylight before announcing Logan

Mills and Reid commence full training this week. Shelldrick, Buller and Arnold some way away still.

Source: an article I read earlier today on Facebook, probably on Swan’s site as well.

Get real! Do you see what Logan does up the field? Some of his goal assists are very special. Reads the game so well, and his spacial awareness is terrific. He's more a CHF than a full forward. His strength is on the lead, not pack marking. Joel will have the odd special game (like Saturday) but he'll have some stinkers as well.

Logan had a game recently where he had 7 score assists. Sometimes the stats don't drill down far enough to pick this up. His excellent choice of kick to Chad against Geelong was inspirational. As Waswan said he does a heap of work off the ball, and gave a perfect handball off to Chad for a goal recently.

Read my entire post rather than just quoting one part. I do realise Logan does other stuff, he is a very clever player and I did say I hope he stays....but he hasn't gone close to kicking nine goals in a game has he?

I also made no comment on his marking ability....and I do think he's a magnificent kick. That long kick to a one on one Amartey after taking the advantage after a free kick was sublime.

Maybe I'll rephrase to Amartey is developing quicker than Logan from where they both started.

I also heard John Ralph make passing comment that Logan wants to stay at the Swans (without any elaboration), when discussing Joel Armatey's 9 goal haul on The Midweek Tackle last night.
