I took his reaction to mean he knew the Swans had already told him that they would select him if he was still around at pick 14Comment

Yeah, family seemed rapt but he didn't move a muscle.....but then he was later smiling like a cheshire cat in the photo with his family while wearing a Swans shirt.
I am hoping he was just stunned that the club of the top team chose him and was also just relieved to be picked by someone with his very still initial reaction.Comment

The youngster is playing it cool. He's got to be stoked to be drafted to the Swans. If he shows enough, we'll keep him.Yeah, family seemed rapt but he didn't move a muscle.....but then he was later smiling like a cheshire cat in the photo with his family while wearing a Swans shirt.

I think it would be a bit of mixed feelings for him, yes he has realised his dream and is on an AFL list, albeit only on a 6-month contract with no guarantees beyond this season. Add to that he is joining the best team in the comp right now where spots are so hard to come by that even a legend of the club can't get a game despite killing it in the 2's. I kind of get that there would be a bit of mixed feelings... Not too many players get a second chance if they are delistedComment

Got a feeling Tom knew that if he was still available at 14 he was coming to Sydney
How did they get everything to his house so quick and or know that he would be at home watching vs at his grandparents and uncles etc ?
BTW Hanily is a left footer which is handy as most of a forward line rotation are right footersLast edited by Auntie.Gerald; 31 May 2024, 11:55 AM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

Agreed, however if he shows enough in the two’s, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t get an extension for at least a year. Last year we took Buller and Arnold who have been unlucky with injuries but show potential so the club perseveres for a reasonable time. By and large, the Swans give players a chance to prove themselves, as a good club should. So far we’ve been lucky with injuries to our top 25 so of course it’s hard to obtain a spot in the first team. Parks was a bit stiff that our midfield has gelled and the coaches didn’t want to disrupt the setup. The choice boiled down to Adams or Wicks, as these were the only obvious spots barring injury. Then he gets suspended so now there’s no dilemma!I think it would be a bit of mixed feelings for him, yes he has realised his dream and is on an AFL list, albeit only on a 6-month contract with no guarantees beyond this season. The fact he's coming to a team flying doesn't really make much difference. Few 18 yos (or 19yo, as of today) expect to play senior football early in their career, especially those down the draft pecking order (as an MSD pick is). He's been selected with a far longer time frame in mind than the next six months. He'll be judged on his attitude towards training and whatever he's able to contribute at VFL level in the next six months, not whether he cracks the senior team.I think it would be a bit of mixed feelings for him, yes he has realised his dream and is on an AFL list, albeit only on a 6-month contract with no guarantees beyond this season. Was great to hear how bullish KB is for Paddy Snell to be one to seriously watch (KB's interview True Bloods podcast) > the likeness to Craig Bolton's never say die, week in week out competitive drive"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Chad mentioned that he would discuss his future playing career with his girlfriend. Does anyone know whether his girlfriend is from Sydney or Perth? If the latter, then more of a flight risk as per Dawson.

Only start to worry if Freo out of the blue draft Ashton Warner in the ND this year - as he's not selected to play U18 Championships so highly likely not draftable!
Unlike the Cows who stiffed us on Dawson because they had first pick in the PSD as a threat, Freo won't have that and also have WCE below them in pecking order if it came down to a WA team only scenario.
If Chad decides after two flags with us he wants to go home, it will be a very expensive trade for the successful WA club.
I'm giving it little thought, it's more than a season and a half away.Last edited by 707; 31 May 2024, 06:02 PM.Comment
