We should be able to take one or two rookies besides Francis and Hamling. The delisted rookies were Reid, McAndrew, Magor and Arnold, but we did add Hanily during the season. From the main list, as well as delisting Francis and Hamling, we also traded Parker and Konstanty, and delisted Vickery. Then we brought in four players in the draft. So, depending on how many players we run with on each list, there's still a bit of room.
There does appear to be some talent remaining.
After 71 players were taken in the National AFL Draft, plenty more are seeking a shot at the top level via today's Rookie intake.
Plus I suppose a few academy graduates are some sort of chance: Harrison, Andreacchio and Ryan. But I suspect they're more likely to get a VFL contract.Comment

I doubt it. I think we still have two more list spots available after we take Hamling and Francis (or before we take them), plus the flexibility to use those two spots on the senior or rookie list. Or to leave one or both empty and use them in the SSP period or mid-season draft.
The most logical reason for why we picked Bice when we did is that we wanted him and weren’t confident he would be available later.Comment

Funny how our team has changed over a decade.
They Bloods way we played is what beats us now, pressure on the ball and keep it out of our hands.
The way we win now is what we were able to stop, possession and precision.
Any update on Longmire ? Reasons he hasn't been sighted, unless I missed itComment

As well as giving Francis and Hamling another go, we also gave another go to former St Kilda defender Ben Paton. More interestingly, we also claimed small defender Blake Leidler. He seems to have plenty of pace and goes well locking down small forwards. I quite like that pick.

After the Dylan Stephens debacle and screwing up the 2022 draft, I feel our list management team put a lot of thought and hard work into this draft. It didn't quite play out like most of us expected, but there is clearly a theme which was consistent through all of our selections.
We are going all out to make the Swans a quick and hard running ball movement team. I don't know if it will work, but it should be some sort of point of difference. We need to try something to get us out of our Bridesmaid Era.Comment

I posted before the draft that i hoped we pick a KPD, small fwd, gen def & tall inside mid.. That we achieved 3 of the 4, even though not exactly how i envisaged, still leaves me satisfied overall. As with all drafts, time will be the ultimate judge.
There will be the inedible tracking of Riak Andrew v Joel Cochran.
Ned Bowman imo was our most interesting selection, a mid sized X factor forward, which signals a change in our foward dynamics along with Dattoli.
It looked very much a needs by selections & getting who we had in mind despite the rankings consensus. Jonty Faul was strongly rumoured as our first target but wonder if that was a deliberate dummy ploy?
Edit: Gerard Healy was non plussed that we didn't take Matt Whitlock instead of Bowman after the first night. Interesting to see what he'll think overall of our selections, as he was highlighting our recent draft misses in the lead up.Comment

Stars of the future: 10 draft prospects to watch in 2025. Max King (Sydney Academy player) mentioned as a top-10 prospect in 2025."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

I think our recruiters have done an excellent job with the picks at our disposal. Only question mark is young Cochrane, but it seems they were forced to make a difficult choice and Riak sure looks super exciting!Comment

it pains me to say this, but I dont sisprect I will be going to another GF dinner in 2025 and I also think we will struggle to make the 8. still cant beleive the draft picks all small except for riak who has injusy problems. We had a choice with or 2 earlier picks to take 1 or 2 swimgmen in the mould of sam reid, matt whitlock and James Barratt. Whitlock came from the same area of northern vic as reid. Like Reid they have both played key back and forward. I agree that King next year might be a go but if we passed on cochrane and didnt select him at our 3rd pick when Collingwood sprouted thay wanted him what message does that send to academy boys.Comment

I see chris keane is still bragging about us having a good draft even when we did not draft for our immediate needs. Longmire missing from both nights does this mean anything. I think its time to revamp our recruiting team and get some football (not maths) knowledge back.Comment
