A highlights package of Ned Bowman can be found at pick 30 of Twomey's 2024 phantom draft. Lots of marks and goals.

Well after tonight's selections looks like we're not playing 3 tall forwards again next season!

It looked to me we were looking to trade down our pick 26 with Bownan in our sights (saw someome on the phone), but either no takers or acceptable offers. Bid on.Sam.Marshall bought more time to no avail.

In retrospect this shouldn't be a surprise. Sometimes taller players tend to be more speculative picks because they can mature later. Another reason Sydney did not draft a tall may be we've got one already: Joel Cochran is a 195cm key defender.

Jack Whitlock and Jobe Shanahan are still available. Jack Whitlock was ranked at #18 on Twomey's form guide and picked at #18 (GWS Giants) in Twomey's phantom draft. Shanahan's ranking was #20 and the phantom draft had him going to Richmond at #14.

North Melbourne must have been expecting Sydney to draft Matt Whitlock at pick 26, and pounced with a pick trade to secure him when that didn't happen.

Sydney Swans remaining picks are 41, 52, 81 and 87. The last two picks will not be used. I have no idea who we may draft at 41, but 52 will likely be used on Cochran.

Although it's never really been my thing, draft day on RWO used to be pretty frenetic. This year only about a dozen actual posts on our first two picks.
              Why?
Have we lost so many RWOers? Or is everyone still disengaged after the GF? Or unexited about the two kids picked?

dont know why first go unapproved. will try again. Very disappoting so far . Datoli cant get a game in the current team with paps etc around. Kostansty could not in his time with us even gave him to Nth for zero it seems.. I reckon Datoli might end the same way. Snell and Cocjrane (if he gets to us ) will have a lot of work to do. Fell sorry for dan and tomac in particular trying to cover the height some forward lines. Hopefully we might get some sense and take a key defr with our next pick (around 44)> clacy dennis (all aus key def) and James barratt prefers fwd but has made a strong fist of playing as ak key defeder (has even played as a mid) No more mid sized players hoefully. seems to me these types of players will have not places to fill in the current team. They will not rep[lace Heeney,Warner,Gulden or Wil. A poor night for swans even Jo L didnt appear to be there.

Why does the club bother when we already have Nostradamus who knows the future and what will happen already. Goodness sake - give the players a chance to either prove themselves, or not prove themselves before you write them off forever into eternity. Ridiculous. The bloke has barely had his name read out and already he is a dud that won't get a game.

In reference to the more reasoned second part of your comment - I think its safe to say that, reading between the lines, the club has recognised the three talls model may not be the way to go, and are looking to diversify the options on the list in that part of the field. I think we should have prioritised taking a tall defender - but equally recognise that maybe between Snell, Edwards and Cochrane (who will get to us - we are going to match a bid if it comes at this point), they may feel there is enough tall timber coming through, and/or they may think a decent tall option will still be on the table at our next live pick.

I feel the same with these kids going to struggle to shift anyone for game time.

                    Very weird Horse not there

Cant see how Logan or Mclean dont play defence next year ? More likely Logan, which would throw that pick in the air and the whole process of building for life after Buddy out the window.

Why the negativity? You may not agree with the picks but the boys should be given a chance, surely! Konstanty was unlucky with injuries but it’s a tough business and management obviously lost confidence in his body to stay fit. Regarding KPD’s- let’s wait and see who we pick tonight, but agree we need a couple of talls.

No way buddy- both these boys have more natural talent than Wicks. They can take a good grab for a start and have genuine pace. They may need a year in the magoos, but we have Cleary already ahead of Wicks. Poor Sam is my least favourite Swan, I’m sorry to say!?

I suspect that it's a bit of both the first two options. Without going back and checking, there's probably a fair few people who were contributing this time last year, who have dropped off this year. Hopefully the numbers will gradually rebuild.

Looking a bit more at Bowman, I think that he might be seen as cover and eventually replacement for Hayward. That is, he's been playing a fair bit of medium forward, and as far as medium forwards go, we have Hayward, Heeney when he's not in the middle, perhaps likewise for Chad and occasionally Fox if he's not running around somewhere else. So, medium forward is definitely a spot that we need more depth. And this profile of Bowman from the Norwood site did have me thinking that he's quite similar to Hayward.

Yes, there's still quite a few decent sounding key position players unclaimed. Surprisingly, the big slider of the night was Shanahan, who most pundits had going between 12 and 20. Although I doubt if he'll slip way down to our pick 41. Probably likewise for the remaining Whitlock. But there's O'Farrell, Mraz, Barratt, Gerreyn, Nicholls, Strumpf and probably a few others whose names I can't recall.

[QUOTE=KSAS;n1246229 Expecting the unexpected but hoping there are no regrets when we look back in a few years time.

That's what happened last night with our 2nd pick when taking a tall (KPD) was expected.

Dattoli made sense as Richmond were also keen & had next pick. He is a need imo. Richmond haven't as yet picked up a small forward or ruckman. All mids & talls thus far.

Bowman isn't a big bolter when considering Cal Twomey had him at pick 30. Fox Footy had him at 89.....that seems crazy when you see his profile & highlights.

Taking Joel Cochrane is a given & hoping bid comes after our pick 41. If the consensus is that the club has faith with Cochrane, Snell & Edwards being our next KPDs, then i'm hoping we either take a tall mid or general defender with pick 41 (it either of quality is available).

As it turned out we had the opportunity to take the Whitlock twins as some phantom drafts had predicted, which looks exciting on paper but may've unbalanced our list with talls?

Definite needs selections to change our forward half profile.& structure.

Loved seeing the reactions/interviews of both Dattoli & Bowman on club website. No signs of regrets & super keen to move up and get stuck into straight away (arriving next Monday).
