Let’s face it- Horse needs a break. The GF was shattering for all of us and I’m sure he wears the bulk of the responsibility.
Truth be told, it was mainly the players who let us down, but the buck stops with him.Comment

It does feel to me that something may be up. He usually meets the top draftee at their house on draft night, and didn't this year - Cox and Kirk did.
John's contract is up this year and hasn't been renewed yet. I have an inkling that they may have a succession plan to Cox in place. Some of Harley's quotes after the GF seemed coded towards that.
At the very least, yes, it seems John has understandably taken the GF loss very hard and is taking a fair break. Perhaps to see how he feels about continuing.Comment

In response to the acrimony over our selections in the ND, especially on the other board, I thought it might be good to have a think about the draft on the basis that the club actually knew what it was doing when it took the recruits that it did.
On the surface, it might seem that we could have picked up the best KPF (Armstrong) in the draft and the best ruck (Dodson) at bargain picks. However, we don't know whether they were unwilling to commit. It may also be that we have a lot more confidence in the up-and-coming Jack Buller than we know, or they are of the opinion that Amartey and McDonald are yet to reach their full potential. Maybe the reasoning with the decision not to take Dodson was that there are other players that would be better placed to help the list whilst we are in the Premiership window.
Perhaps we are really happy with all of the second-tier players that are coming through, and the types of player supporters are asking for, such as contested ball winners, are already on the list in Cleary and Sheldrick.
Perhaps there was reasoning behind not taking Cochran in that it sends the message "don't bid up our academy kids beyond their worth because we may not necessarily take them," just prior to us having 3 academy prospects coming through next year.
Bice, Leidler and Paton certainly look like insurance for Lloyd Rampe and Cunningham in the shorter, rather than longer, term.
The recruitment of Bowman, a mercurial type with a huge leap, good mobility, excellent goal-kicking, and positional versatility, whilst a surprise decision to many, was not far out of the ballpark for a number of pundits. He will certainly offer another way to structure the forward line without 3 talls. (As a side note, just looking at him at training, he seems to be a lot taller than the 186cm that he was listed as).
Dattoli was pretty well accepted across the board so not worth much of a comment here. Suffice to say he is a like-for-like replacement for Konstanty.
The fact is, the only thing we know for certain is that the value of this draft won't be fully known for years and that the club is far better placed to know all the facts than us lowly forum posters.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment

We do need a Paddy replacement down back but otherwise I think our squad is nearly complete. We need Chad to extend and hope for continued improvement of our young players to stay in the window, as we can expect our rivals to improve as well.
Still having trouble thinking about the GF and reasons as to why we collapsed the way we did. Can the lads learn from it or will that experience scar them mentally? It worries me because I just can’t understand it at all!!Comment

My only wprry with dean Cox was that he was part of the group that overlooked a pick(s) for our most needed postions that being key defenders. Dont think ria will be ready in 2025 and both francis and hamling (even though he hasnt played a senior game ) have been found wanting. Whielock (matt) and James barratt were available. And they can play fwd.Comment

Pretty much Scottee. I like the pick of Bowman as we can really do with a forward who can take a great grab, seeing that Isaac is destined to play mainly midfield. With Paps and Wilbur it could be very exciting- looking forward to his development. I’m happy with our selections- time will tell of course but let’s face it, it is so subjective and our track record is pretty good with late picks.

Probably the main reason he was seen rubbing shoulders with Footy people in Perth, haven't heard from anyone that went.Comment

Further to the story that Chad was seen playing Golf with West Coast officials on Monday, it has been revealed it was with CEO Don Pyke & Kieran Jack.
Cameron Mooney said this is a real bad look considering Chad's situation, even if he was friends with the two former Swans.
Sam Edmund reckons he'd be really surprised if Chad doesn't re-sign with the Swans for at least 2 years till he becomes a FA, considering where both clubs currently are in the premiership race.
I heard rumour during the mid season.break that Chad was seen having dinner with Freo officials. Not surprised Chad is being courted by WA clubs in this way. Hopeful he will re-sign with us.
On the final episode of "Gettable" yesterday, Callum Twomey predicted Chad's signing will drag late into next season as he tries to eek out maximum $$$$ either way.
