General footy chat Round 13: the other games.

The good news for Richmond, is that they get Bolton, Prestia and Taranto back. The bad news is that they lose Martin, Pickett and Lefau. It seems like every year, there's a team whose season is totally screwed by injury, and unfortunately for them, this year it's their turn. But still, I probably wouldn't want to take the $1.20 being offered for an Adelaide win, as most of the times that I've seen them, their attacking game has been tediously pedestrian (except for the currently injured Izak Rankine).

Speaking of injuries, the bad luck has finally got Brisbane this season, and on Friday night they probably have to beat the Western Bulldogs to keep their season alive. Not sure if they can, but it might be fun watching them try.

Sunday night's game between Carlton and Essendon might also be interesting, but I've no idea who I want to win?

This week has a lot of matches involving teams of roughly equal ladder position.

    Adelaide v Richmond: 14th v 17th. (3)
    Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane: 11th v 13th. (2)
    Hawthorn vs GWS Giants: 12th v 7th. (5)
    West Coast v North Melbourne: 16th v 18th. (2)
    St Kilda v Gold Coast: 15th v 8th. (7)
    Sydney v Geelong: 1st v 3rd. (2)
    Essendon v Carlton: 2nd v 5th. (3)
    Collingwood v Melbourne: 9th v 10th. (1)

(The teams with byes are 4th and 6th.)

The two matches where the opponents are farthest apart on the ladder are St Kilda v Gold Coast and Hawthorn v GWS Giants. These matches feel like the teams are more evenly matched than the ladder position suggests: Gold Coast has not won away from home this year, and Hawthorn have been in very good form.

This promises to be an interesting round of matches this week.

Poor Nicksy - I know he has another two years to run and the Crows seem to be willing to give him time; but the fans will be howling for his scalp after that.

(As for Jordan, you made your choice buddy . . . )

I did however get great joy in texting a mate of mine in Adelaide to remind him the Tigers are clearly top four calibre based on their prior victories this season.

Lot of 50/50 games this weekend, and so far my tipping is in the toilet.
The Dogs were pretty poor in their game, whereas the Crows are too reliant on too few.
Kudos to Brisbane and Richmond; they brought the heat and fried their opponents.

I was so disappointed that RWO was inaccessible last night. (Well, it was for me.) I was just busting to discuss the umpiring in last night's game. At one stage, the Poodles were losing the free kick count 14 - 2 and their supporters were baying for blood. It was hilarious! I picked the Poodles in my work tipping competition but was barracking hard for the Lions. Well done, Brissy!

Yes, if the site was functioning, I probably would have posted something about the AFL world being in mourning.

Anyone who tips all eight matches correctly this week is either an idiot or a genius.

Watching the Dogs fans lose their minds was hilarious. They got stung badly by the new HTB rule and mainly because the days of just dropping the pill in the tackle are over.

Plus, I never really like the Bont and seeing him throw his mouthguard and utter profanities on the final siren in realisation his career is being wasted at that loser of a club was magnificent.

Great result for us, but a very, very iffy decision to say the least. Was hoping for a draw!

It was, out if curiosity I rewound it and thought that Chol was closest to it as it went out (but he was probably out of bounds, too, and I have no idea how that works).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

It's amazing almost every result keeps strengthening our ladder position, every team in the pack behind us seems to be getting beaten - nice

It'll be interesting to see if Butler gets fined for staging. He pushed Andrew in the chest. Andrew pushed him in the chest. Butler went down, holding his head. Free kick and charity goal to Butler.

He likes spitting the dummy and throwing his mouthguard after the final siren. He did it last year when we beat them by 2 points.

But seriously, with the talent that the Bulldogs have, they should be in the 8.

The HTB against Yeo to gift North a goal to put them in front was an absolute shocker. He did not have any prior opportunity. I'm concerned about our defenders tomorrow!
