Oh, come on, he's a bit more than that.

In terms of stats (possessions, clearances, goals) there's nothing between Bolton, Kirk, and Williams this season. Any independent assessment you care to name would have him in the Swans ten best players, and most would have him in the top three or four. I think he's a certainty for a top three finish in the B&F.

For example, take a look at any newspaper or TV player of the year poll, and the only Swans players ahead of him would be Hall and Kirk. In the Age Poll, he's ranked alongside Voss, Hird, Gehrig and Riewoldt.

If he's only getting $300k a year, he needs to give Ron Josephs a kick up the arse.

I'm generally with you on this discussion Cliff but that's a big call.

If the club did it's count now I'd guess Barry would be at the top, with a tight tussle for the next few places between the other Barry (Leo), Kirk, Mathews, Crouch and maybe Jude. I'd probably have them in that order, too, with O'Keefe maybe slipping in ahead of Jude as well (Pebbles will score very heavily in a handful of games and may well benefit from the coaching staff having lesser expectations of him than the rest of the group, especially at the start of the year.)

jude bolton would get 300k at any club... he is a great player i think some people here mark him rather harsh... he is considered an elite midfielder by many in and outside the club

id say bolton would deserve to be in our top 5-6 paid players

Jude is a huge name in a difficult market. Those guys were cramped in a very crowded market.

In defence of all those guys, injuries had ravaged their legs and there isn't much you can do about that. That is just plain bad luck, pure and simple.

We have to hang onto our good talent. Jude is workman like in the way he plays, but he is effective for Paul Roos' game plan and more importantly, he sees himself excelling under his coaching.

If you believe what you read, Gaspar was being paid close to twice the amount we're talking about for Jude, and that was a contract made several years ago.

But Kirk also does great defensive work, and Williams has been far more effective over a number of years. Bolton hasn't risen to these heights yet, and who is to say he will.

These would be the polls and best player listings that are often mainly based on stats.

Not saying he is not useful, but he is nowhere near most of those players just named, and I think $300K is a little steep.

Must disagree, Kirk is head and shoulders above Bolton, and I must say I do like Bolton, but look at Kirk's handling and delivery, no comparison IMHO.

kirk is a champion really.... he gets a lot of the ball himself but still shuts down the best midfielders week in week out!!! not many can do that ...they either get a lot of kicks or stop someone else

Yes Lizz, on that point, Gaspar reputedly wanted 250 when he left us and I understand we did not want to pay that, I for one did not want a defender who could not handpass or kick, funnily enough we used Dunkley, but that is another story....Gaspar went to Tigerland had a good season or two within a few years, then Freo sniffed and Tige's, again reputedly, almost doubled his salary.

On Jude, I suppose we could all nominate relativities, just what do we expect say Hall, Williams, Saddington Crouch Micky are getting?

You are banging Mrs Bolton I presume ?? or perhapes might be if you say nice enough things about her son ?? perhapes you are just another desperate member of the sydney gay scene lining up to have your shot at testing judes sexuality.
Either way you are looking at the Bolton boy wonder with rose colourd glasses me thinks , and so is anyone who has jude in our top 4 : Barry Hall, Brett Kirk, Leo Barry , Jason Ball, Jarred crouch, Paul Beven, even Goodes in his hooror post brownlow seasone are all above Jude now. And possibly so are a few others ...

Therin lies the problem, because if you pay jude $330 000, what effect does that have on the other players who are better than him who are either making less than him or not making significantly more ??
