    Lrt

No thread on LRT this week yet?

Ok, I need to re-watch the game with my LRT microscope on but it does appear in the last two weeks that other teams are trying to target him by putting a gun on him, then dragging him to the goal square where he has to adapt to a FB role.

But on the weekend, he was absolutely crucified by the umpires. They seem to assume he's clumsy, so if anyone falls over in the marking contest, and LRT's nearby, instant free.

The upside of getting LRT one out in the goal square, means Leo Barry is able to provide more run from further up the ground.

He dropped 4 marks in the 1st half.

He did a couple of good spoils, and a tackle followed by a smother. His 1%ers seem to be improving.

That Free at the end of the 3 term was a bit harsh, when he came in for the hitout, when Ball was wrestling with Bryan(??) I think the free was against Ball for sheperding (crap).

I think he also took a couple of contested marks, which always makes me go "Was the LRT ". But he has to take more marks. He is getting himself in position to take the marks.

He also Let Waite get away too many times to kick some easy goals.

It's the Swans who decide who LRT plays on - not the other way around. That's typically how it works in the back line.

He was a bit unlucky with some of the frees against, but I thought he'd been a bit lucky with not being paid some in previous weeks.

Still seems very unsure of where to go and what to do - looked out of sorts against Waite.

Dropped too many easy marks, but took a good contested one.

He's all over the place. Pity we can't put him in the reserves. Pity we don't seem to have anyone to teach him how to play football properly.

        LRT is a dud.

Why does Roos persist with him???
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!

Not always so easy once play is under way.

The forward was forced to go the spoil on several occations = great body positioning by LRT.

Yeah, Roos wouldnt know @@@@ about how to play CHB.

If you cant see in that game against the blues, you'll never see it.

            Let me spell it out:

            1) Our other main candidate for CHB, Schauble, did nothing.

            2) LRT has moments of brilliance (outmark the forward, endevour on ground) mixed with brain-failures. Its just a case of removing the brain failures with experience where he will become a good player. The plough is slow, but the earth is patient.

Good to see him involved in link play too. He looked to me like he wasnt 100% confident of his kicking, so handballed unless he had a real good lead to kick to. Therefore as soon as I saw him drop ball to boot, I knew it was going to a good break up forward.

No - you play on who you play on in the backline. Their counter is to move the forward to a different spot. I don't think Waite was deliberately moved to the goal square.

Stiff. I call it as I see it whether you like it or not.

Still missed too many easy marks - ie: slipped through his fingers, not spoiled.

It's a matter of whether he can impart his wisdom to LRT and whether he has enough time to devote to one project.

Added to that, Waite was a screamingly obvious match-up for LRT - tall, mobile, relatively young half-forward. He is exactly the kind of player LRT is in the team to play on.

I sat with my cousins who care Carlton members and after some of the MSUs (to borrow a phrase from KB) - I just commented to them their best bet was to try and direct play through LRT's opponent.

Again, he tried hard, but some basic errors are still all too common, and while he was really made to pay, it could have been a lot lot worse.

                    He is definately improving;

Most impressive: his positioning, last few weeks he has been in the right spot and used his undoubted size, athleticism, strength to good use.

He is also increasing his confidence running upfield, if he continues to improve this will be his biggest asset ala Lepitsch (no comparison made at this stage !!!)

Least impressive: dropped a few marks he 'HAS' to (not should) take (comes with the position).

                    Gives away clumsy free kicks

Still looks slow in his decision making

Overall: Looks 100% more confident and his game is improving as a result and he never concedes an easy mark (great asset at CHB), compare his work to Saddo ?

It is interesting people complain when young blokes dont get a long enough run, LRT is getting it (and in absence of any alternative !) they complain he is getting too much game time !!

Confidence is a wonderful thing at the elite level, especially as a young emerging player. I'm not quite big kev about him yet, but he is improving.

Wiate spent as much time in defense as attack, so not sure why his name is popping up in the LRT thread.

Anyway, having just watched the 1st half again, I can confidently say that LRT beat his oponent(s) in the opening half, and should have had a shot on goal if the umpire had a basic understanding of the rules. Only 1 carlton goal could be attributed to him, and that was where he dropped a mark, recovered, then J.Bolton didnt pick up his handball. So only indirectly his fault. Otherwise, did some great link play.

From memory he went off a bit in the 2nd half, but that 1st half should convert a few non-believers.

Funny thing about watching LRT 2nd or 3rd time around, he actually looks a lot better than "live".

He's not (yet) a great footballer but he's certainly worth persisting with - and he seems to be learning from experience.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Still reckon he has the mobility to make an around the ground follower. Don't know about his centre bounce ability but he has plenty of run, and if he learned how to give off quick handpasses to running players it would certainly offset his questionable kicking ability. There have been plenty of big blokes over the years who have been good at this.
