This talk of Vogels moving to defense is interesting. The problem I can see with this is that for all of his good offensive play, the one criticism of his time in the seniors is that he doesnt chase his opponent hard enough once he's turned the ball over. If he is not willing to do it in attack, will this translate to some laziness in defense, which would severely restrict his effectiveness as a defender?

I also remember him saying it, and it was very noticeable at that time. Vogels hasnt really had a lot of game time since then, so it is hard to know if he has been guilty of it again, but at the same time, I dont have any specific memories of any great defensive efforts from him either. So as it stands, its still a concern for me.Originally posted by NMWBloods

In the game before that (his first against Essenon) I noticed twice he ran down players in the F50 and made a smother too, which is why I was surprised by Brereton's comment.

I haven't noticed either way since then, which is hardly surprising given his lack of game time.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Certainly would like to see him out on the ground more. No point having him (or anyone for that matter) rotting away on the pine. This is where the swans need a decent rotation policy while Roosy is bringing in plenty of new guys this season. I reckon it could be time for Vogels to have a break (and kick a lazy 10 in reserves) while Dempster comes back in for another crack.Visit my eBay store -

Agree as per an earlier comment, versus Carlton all forwards were clearing out leaving LRT closest to the goalsquare where his inability to read the play gives them a real shot every time.

I regret most of the umps decisions regarding LRT's lack of timing/clumsiness (over the past two weeks) were spot on.

The next tactic will be to zone off on kickouts leaving LRT as our only target then hassle him into a mistake.Sports do not build character. They reveal it....Heywood Broun

The more studious observers would have noticed that when Whitnal was beginning to carve up Schauble, who did Roos turn to to shut him down: LRT.
Of course history shows that Whitnal got a couple of gifts from the umpy, and Roos had to go to Bolton.

I watched the game again, and cant understand the logic of comparing Waites game to LRT's. Waite and LRT would have played 20 minutes together for the whole game.Comment

Looked to me like LRT was on Waite until late in the third quarter, and then switched onto Whitnall and then off him early in the fourth quarter.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

So who was on Waite and who was LRT on?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

From the sounds of it he was watching the Blues vs. Swans game from the weekend, what were you watching?Originally posted by barry
You must have been watching a different game. I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Looked like that to me too. Certainly he was only on Whitnall for a few minutes. He was on Waite for at least 3 of Waite's goals.Originally posted by NMWBloods

I'm not knocking LRT's efforts by the way. He's learning, Waite played pretty well (not surprising given that he's a quality young player) and LRT did some decent things despite being beaten on occasions.

However, I don't see the need to rewrite the facts to support LRT's contribution.Comment

I think Waite is a superb player - potential champion in a few years.

BTW - Nicks was on Waite for his 4th goal - 1 min before 3QT.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Looking through the recent papers, there were pics of Roos, from his playing days, complete with the matress thigh pad, and ............ two red gloves.Originally posted by Ruckman
I've never used gloves, when I was playing they were used only in soccer. I did notice when they first arrived that players would remove them when having a shot at goal.
I wonder whether that "grippiness" which can affect the drop when kicking may not affect the touch when palming?
Similarly I wonder also at their fit, when punching can you clench your fist as tightly?

I don't recall him having any problems playing/defending/spoiling, so it can't be detrimental.

So maybe a glove or two would be a good thing for LRT. Stop us calling him butter fingers.Comment

Seems that the prevalence of gloves has dropped a lot in the past few years. Yze is a regular with them, Chad Cornes wears them, but apart from them, I can't think of any other regular wearer going around at the moment.
