I dont believe that. Hall takes the best defender and even if he doesnt get much of the ball (like in the QF and SF), he is still able to take his man away from the play. He is our best and only real power forward - we'd be ********ed if he didnt play the GF, especially considering he's play most (if not all??) of the games this year.

IMO the most similar one was Koschitzke's one where St Kilda appealed and he got off. Contact was no harder than that one.

Barry Hall come into 2005 with no carry over points, so unless I missed a report during the year he has no priors and will be able to receive the 25% discount if he pleads guilty. Combine that with the 25% discount for an early plea he should drop below the 100 activation points and be free to play.

I have watched about five replays of the game so far (wonder why??) and I am convinced of the following:

            1. Bazza pulled the punch.
            2. There is no actual footage of the contact. There may well have been no contact at all.
            3. The area the punch was going to contact was NOT the gut. In fact it was more around the nipple area (maybe he has a nipple ring?).
            4. Maguire's arm swung through as the contact was made, meaning he may well have hit him in the arm, or had his hand brushed away by it anyway.
            5. There is still conjecture over whether it reaally was "in play" or not, considering he took a mark no more than 10sec after the incident. The action was actually part of a lead by Barry.

Whilst it may go before the tribunal, there are plenty of ways in which the review panel can reduce the activation points so that an early guilty plea gets him less than 100 points and so only a reprimand.

FWIW it was a clear dive. And at the very next centre bounce (I think) there is clear footage of Dal Santo punching Ablett in the stomach as they wait for the bounce.

Bondy on 3AW has just said that if the AFL deem Bazza's last offence in 02 as being over 3 years ago then he will be reprimanded. If they don't he will be offered 4 weeks and 3 weeks with a guilty plea.

That's how the AFL might decide according to Bondy

tune into 3aw, bondie the tribunal specialist says he'll get off.

round 19, kosi 'strikes' corey. It was a brush, no evidence that he made any contact.

                exactly same case.

                he's clear.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's going to be a long 48 hours of waiting to see if he's cited, let alone suspended.

yes I just heard Bondy and he mentioned several precedents, since the Gehrig love tap. Joel Corey reacted in exactly the same way as Maguire after the hit which was graded as incidental contact. Bondy also suggests that it depends on the definition of a year as Hall was suspended in 2002 but if the time elapsed is regarded as three years his record doesn't come into play. In fact he gets regarded as having a good record. The conspiracy theory of course is that the AFL won't want to be seen to rub out someone for what in rugby circles is seen as a 'soft' hit.

The offence in 2002 was not in a preliminary final, therefore it is certainly over 3 years ago.

I am getting more confident, especially considering the 3 year clean slate scenario.

Yes it was off the ball but Baz was on a lead and there is real doubt as to whether Maguire was actually hurt in the incident.

As Carey just said on Fox Footy, if it goes to the tribunal then Maguire will say he took a dive.

There were half a dozen similar incidents in the game, its just the Melbourne media seem hell bent on getting Barry cited to sell more papers during the week.

An unwanted distraction but in the sober light of morning I am more hopeful than ever.

                          You're my wife now dave.

McGuire could get a gig on Rock and Roll Wrestling after that Ronaldinho-like effort.

It would be a travesty for Baz to miss the GF for that.

i would think so as brownlow betting hasn't stopped

also another question is it three calender years or three seasons (02, 03, 04)

i would think itd have to be three years or 36 months.
