lets not count our chickens just yet...I'd welcome SPida with open arms, or maybe Beau McDonald. A second ruckman IS this year's priority. Jolly can't handle it on his own, not the way we play...and I am sorry to say that IMHO, relying on Doyle to stay injury free is a real gamble, I wouldn't take. No matter what the Melb press say, we DO have a window of opportunity to stay competitive for a top 4 spot for two or three years still. I would still want to get a key position backman to release Leo back to the HB flank...and perhaps an outside midfielder. We are great at bottling up the opposition at stoppages, but an outside midfielder to actually clear the ball would be good...
Anyone think Tadhg could fill that role, a la Judd. To me, they seem to have similar physiques and speed off the mark...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

wood b a steal, powell & saddo r reserve-graders. reckon swans wood have 2 part with a good part of our 4ward or back line 2 secure spida.

Yes! They should move mountains to get Everett. I think that he is the key to Sydney's chances of securing back to back. The best ruckman in the country.

I heard it was just Saddo and Powell.

With Everitt in the side, I think we have a decent chance of challenging again. Probably play about 40% in the ruck and most of the rest of the time at full forward. How potent would our forward line be then!!

            Deal.

That still leaves us Pick 19 to play with. Brilliant.

We're losing a lot of experience, sure. But let's say that in addition to Ball, Nicks and Schauble, Maxfield retires, Saddo and Powell are traded and Fixter, Sundqvist and James are delisted... we still have only six spots to fill once Everitt and Vogels are put on the list. Promote Shaw, promote Grundy and its four draft picks. Three if we choose to leave one spot open to have a look at the PSD.

By the time we pick a young midfielder who has been held back by injuries (ie, how we got Malceski for pick 64), a mature tall such as James Podsiadly (has improved out of sight this year) and a speculative bottom-age player like Matthew Davis, we will have recruited very well.

We will have a large turnover this year and a lot of young kids. That was always going to happen... it's why I wrote that three-part player assessment during the off-season. A turnover of eight or nine players - whether we won the flag or not - could be seen a mile away.
            We hate Anthony Rocca
            We hate Shannon Grant too
            We hate scumbag Gaspar
            But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

              swans fans 4 spida

securing spida will take more than just boardroom wheel'n & deal'n, fans will play a part 2. it's important 4 us fans 2 demostrate 2 spida that he'd b welcome in sydney & that swans supporters r worthy of his talent. i think somebody from this board should contact peter's ppl & make known how happy we'd b 2 c him in swans colors. while i can't say 4 certain spida will bring us a flag next yr, without him we certainly won't repeat. if fans r eager 2 c sydney regain the title they should get behind this cause. heard ess. fans plan on sending spida an ess. shirt with his name on the back. think we should match this, but also create a banner stating our support & appreciation & maybe pay 4 him (air fare/accom/spending money) 2 come 2 sydney 2 check things out

                Spider heading To Sydney

Sydney are denying they are chasing Spider but Saddington and Powell have been rumoured to be part of a trade package.

If they got Spider would they still chase Mcdonald aswell considering Spider could play forward?

                    Good call aceman.

Spida would be ideal for Sydney and Sydney would be ideal for Spida.

If the Swannies are serious about attracting him to the club, then I suspect he would already have been up here.

Wouldn't it be ideal for Spida to be in Sydney this Friday to witness the parade and see the culture this city can muster for it's team.

You need to talk to Hawthorn fans more. It appears that Clarkson wishes to rebuild the hawthorn side with the goal of being a serious challenger in about 2008 or 2009. Spida would likely have retired by then, so it's a good idea to put him on the trade table to see if the Hawks can get something decent for him while he still has trade value.

Spida for Saddo and Powell would be a fair trade, although I believe that we should also receive a late-round draft pick (third or fourth).

I'm sorry to offend you Matt, but buying ageing top up players has been the undoing of this club for the previous 22 years.

Our trading under Roos has been for talent with many years left in them (ie Davis and Jolly). We tried desperately to not use the No.1 pick for Jolly, but werent able to pull it off.

I'd rather keep the first round pick so we can at least go some way to building a competitive team 4 years down the track when Spider is long gone. Discarding 2 first round picks in two years doesnt bode well for the future.

With you there Barry but our first pick is 19 so I dont think it is that significant.

Having said that, given that 3-year younger Everitt costed them pick 6 and pick 22 (infact it was pick 8 + pick 24 which were moved up due to the Carlton story), paying Saddo+ pick 19 + Powell for him is way way way over the odd.

Certainly not offended mate but my point is I think Roos has proven his worth in knowing exactly who and how to trade. We just won a premiership so the right decisions had been made previously so lets just trust Roosey's and staff's decsions going forward.

Sure it would a fabulous trade if we could score Spida for 2 players who aren't in our best 22. I don't think it will happen though. Everitt will be in demand and we can't play hardball like we did with Davis. Expect at least pick 19 to go in the deal, if not more. I believe the status with Everitt is that the club are entertaining offers, but are in no hurry to discard him. If they don't receive a valuable deal, i don't think they will go for it.

Or to view this from a different angle. If we had Spider and a club offered us 2 fringe players, do you think we would take it?

Now we have won a premiership, I'd really not like us to do a Port Adelaide and be battling to make the eight next year. We can cover most positions around the ground except the ruck. And I'd love Doyle to last out a season - but I would have liked Heath James to do the same.

With Spida, we'd be as strong in 2006 as we were in 2005. Without him, we won't. Also, Spida is possibly even more useful than Cox. If Baz was ever injured, right now we'd be in trouble. Spida could largely plug that gap.

But over at Hawk Headquarters they are saying that Spida has committed to staying. It's trade time so I'd just like to point out that I heard that Judd was so impressed with the Swans that he wants to come and play for us. He's hoping to get some time off the bench with us, along with Aker and Pavlich.
