Where did you hear that them deny it? I have only heard Roos deny he was chasing Power so far.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I wish I'd heard this rumour before the weekend as Spida was at the pub I was at in Richmond after the grand final.

I believe the status with Everitt is that the club are entertaining offers, but are in no hurry to discard him. If they don't receive a valuable deal, i don't think they will go for it.

Or to view this from a different angle. If we had Spider and a club offered us 2 fringe players, do you think we would take it?
I agree with this assessment - this just doesn't make sense from a Hawks perspective. Why would they think that they could turn around these two players who've had lots of time to show their potential. Can't see it happening as is.

I'd rather keep the first round pick so we can at least go some way to building a competitive team 4 years down the track when Spider is long gone. Discarding 2 first round picks in two years doesnt bode well for the future.
          Simplistic and wrong.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the recruitments of Wiliams, Healy, Lockett, Roos and Schwass. All of them happened at times when the club could look forward and see a chance of a flag within the time that those players would be there. We did not lose the '86 and '87 finals because we imported a whole lot of players - we got there because of them, but they were physically stuffed because of bad training regimes. We did not lose the '96 GF, '97 QF and '98 SF because we had Lockett, Roos and Schwass in the team. We lost because we came up against better sides on the day. Without Lockett, it's unlikely we would have been there in '96 and '98.

We know we are a flag chance. We proved it this year! It seems entirely logical to replace the only component of that team - an experienced ruckman - that we have lost, so that we can try and go back to back.

We have a competetive premiership winning team now. Now is the time to go for more premierships, not in 4 bloody years time!

I totally agree with everything Charlie has said. You can also add Schauble and Ball to that list.

I agree with Charlie. With the way that the AFL is now structured, teams need to really go for it when their premiership window opens.

Teams have been criticised in the past for "topping up", including us, but that ignores the fact that teams have topped up and then won flags. Look at Brisbane - they added players to their side when they needed to.

Saddo & Powell for Everitt would be a good deal. I wouldn't be keen on adding our first draft pick but that's because I think it's too expensive - not because I don't think we should trade it.

I reckon Fosdike will be in the mix somewhere in this deal. back to Adelaide or Port for a first round pick enabling us to keep pick 19.
Not that i want to see one of our PREMIERSHIP players go but he did want out last year.

Saddo, Powelly, and fossies draft pick for Spida!!

I'd rather make hay while the sun shines. We only get a few more years out of players like Hall, MO'L, Barry, Williams, etc, so we may as well see what we can grab now. Top-ups will give us more chance of grabbing another flag in '06 or '07, while it remains fairly open.

Also, Hawthorn planned to use Everitt in the goal square for most of this season, so it's not quite the same as them giving up their main ruckman.

Saddington adds some experience to a young side, possibly for 5 years, and Powell has lots of potential and the Hawks may be able to unlock it.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I don't think it will happen. Fosdike was injured last season and his position in the 22 uncertain. Totally different now plus he's happy in Sydney.

But these players won't turn around the fortunes of the Hawks now or into the future and that's the kind of players that Clarkson will be looking for IMO.

I would like to see Everitt with the Swans but I was excited and hopeful when Plugger came back, Dermie signed, Allison signed etc etc so I will keep a lid on any over-enthusiastic response.

I'm in the Charlie camp - I thought we'd chase Spida last yr so I'd be delighted if we can pick him up this year.

One qn - Spida does a lot of media stuff in Melbourne presumably for big $$$$. How does Sydney compensate him for that? Besides enabling him to win a flag I mean.

Perhaps he can get a job as moderator on RWO - I hear that pays the big bikkies!

None of them were 31. Except maybe Roos, and his recruitment took a while to pay off into a premiership. (But I doubt there has been a more favourable trade in AFL history).

Ask yourself this. If we had lost the semi to Geelong, would you still be pushing this trade ?
