There was absolutely nothing wrong with the recruitments of Wiliams, Healy, Lockett, Roos and Schwass. All of them happened at times when the club could look forward and see a chance of a flag within the time that those players would be there. We did not lose the '86 and '87 finals because we imported a whole lot of players - we got there because of them, but they were physically stuffed because of bad training regimes. We did not lose the '96 GF, '97 QF and '98 SF because we had Lockett, Roos and Schwass in the team. We lost because we came up against better sides on the day. Without Lockett, it's unlikely we would have been there in '96 and '98.
We know we are a flag chance. We proved it this year! It seems entirely logical to replace the only component of that team - an experienced ruckman - that we have lost, so that we can try and go back to back.
That was incredibly pompous and condescending, how do you know it was bad training regimes ?
Are you aware of something us mere mortals are not ?
I actually agree with your point in general and would like to see Spida join us, but is there any need to be so high and mighty about it ?

Pompous? Matter of fact, perhaps. But not pompous.
I actually think quite highly of many of barry's posts. I just don't happen to agree with some things he says, and I say so when that is the case.
Mark Bayes is one player who has criticised the training regime during the Hafey years - saying it took several productive years off his career. Hafey's pre-season camps consisted of such rubbish as dragging tree trunks up sand dunes. Completely unnecessary and over the top.

I am sure barry will sleep at nights now knowing you think quite highly of his posts !!!!
Try reading back through this thread, you may see what i mean, yours is not the only opinion !
Just my opinion for what it is worth
So its pompous and condescending, then. In your opinion.. I'm not really concerned.
Reading through my posts in this thread, I have argued my points in a fairly neutral, dispassionate tone. If that's condescending, so be it. I have a particular style of writing that aims to be precise and clear. Sometimes that seemingly comes across as a 'pompous' style... but there's nothing I can do about that, so there's no point worrying about it.

What a pack of charmers, those St Kilda supporters. They deserve their club and its miserable losing victim culture.

I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.
Originally posted by giant One qn - Spida does a lot of media stuff in Melbourne presumably for big $$$$. How does Sydney compensate him for that? Besides enabling him to win a flag I mean.
Spida = Ackers = self managed players?
Could this be an to get Hawks to sweeten the pot for his final season or so?

A 26 year old dual premiership ruckman who is now injury free sounds ok to me.
all this worry about a kp backman.......we have him in the ressies waiting for a chance, just promote guy campbell from rookie list and give him the job like roos did with lrt and let him blossom into another scarlett or silvagni.
everitt would be a great pickup even for 2 backup players and pick 19.powell and saddington were a chance to be delisted anyway.as well as james and fixter, leaves us room to promote our really good rookies, campbell, vogels, potter maybe grundy and then add the 3 mandatory draftees.
