Sorry, you misheard. we actually get paid IN bikkies But that will go next year as the lucky bikkies have been retired undefeated.

I think if we can snare Everitt for a "decent" price, then we should absolutely consider it. We only have a short window where we'll be pushing for another flag, so we need to be pretty smart about how we handle the next couple of years. It's funny though, reading on BigFooty and elsewhere, we are undervaluing him and the Hawthorn supporters are overvaluing him

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

      Yes.

Different angle to this. If we has lost to Geelong, I doubt Everitt would be keen to join us.

We won the flag so Everitt might see us as his best chance to get a premiership medal before retirement.

I think a 31- year old player would find it very difficult to motivate himself when playing for a young side with no visible chance for the flag. And he was with them for a very short period so the sentimental bond might not be there at all.

Ah, sorry about the confusion on the bikkies front - did seem like a sweet deal.

I'm sure the Saddo/Powell comment is a starting position for Swans - can't really see us getting an All-Aussie ruckman for 2 players outside our starting 22 nws his age.

Its been widely antipicated all year.

Anyway, I dont subscribe to this premiership clock rubish. (ie we have to win a flag while we still have Hall, Leo Barry, Williams, etc).
Remember 2003 when we were supposed to win the spoon, and begin the complete rebuild of our list. 2 years later we're premiers, but adding one young ruckman.

I'd trade Pick 19 for another Jolly, who'll ruck for another 5 years minimum.

Please!! Do NOT trade Fosdike! He's young and has shown plenty of what he can do when he maintains fitness. Surely he wouldn't want to leave a Premiership team.

I disagree, this part of your argument seems simplistic and wrong to me.
Yes we lost a ruckman from our 22 this year, and Yes we need to replace him
                  BUT
                  A) We lost a fullback in 2002 and we still haven't replaced him properly (Leo should not be viewed as anything other than a temporary fullback).
                  And
                  B) Up forward we haven't had 2 key forwards in decades! (We got away with it this time but what happens when Barry Hall does a 6 week hamstring?)

So while I think Spida would be around just long enough for our young rucks to develop (which is good) without blocking Jolly etal. He may be able to provide a marking target up forward too (also good although attempts to make him a permanent forward have previously failed).
Of course I am a little concerned about what we'd have to give up in exchange for him, but mainly because I'd hate to lose our chance at a KPP because we gave away too much for Spider.
On the other hand if he's all that's available and we can do it for Saddington & Powell but that's it then let's do it. He is an excellent ruckman.

And he MAY become the outside midfielder we've been craving

How is any of this inconsistent with the statement 'it seems entirely logical to replace the only component of that team - an experienced ruckman - that we have lost'?

Dunkley and a second key forward (I'd argue that Mick fills that role regardless) were not part of our premiership team. Therefore, they are not holes from Saturday that must be refilled.

This is a huge insult to Leapin' who has done more than enough to claim the position as his own!

He is doing exceptionally well there, but I don't think playing him there gives us the best value out of Leo. I'd much rather he was playing at HB on the second best forward. More chances for those heart stopping runs, steps, 360- degree blind turns and bounces
Looking out for good omens which can bring the Swans the 2007 premiership

                            It's a good trade.

Powell was a delisting risk anyway, and so doesn't cost substantially, and let's face it, if someone's prepared to bite Saddo will be going-- it's just a question of where. With most 31 year olds, I'd say 'you must be joking', but Spida is in rare form and not looking injury-prone.

Plus Sundqvist, Fixter, Matt Davis et al would be all fully in favour-- 2 out, 1 in would mean that their spots on the list would suddenly start looking a lot safer!

We have no problem at all with key forwards. Vogels has shown more than enough to indicate that he can come on, and Goodes is quite capable of playing CHF if BBBH was out injured.

In addition, in round 1 2005 we played successfully with 3 rucks, with one of them camped in the forward line. The option was quickly taken away from us with Doyle's injury, but the Hawks really struggled to match up on it.

If anything, our problem in the mid-latter period of 2005 was ensuring that our forwards didn't get too top-heavy-- when Vogels, BBBH, Micky and ROK were all playing up there and Goodes drifting forward as well.
