maybe we could do a deal with both carlton and essendon. Curnow ro us for our first pick (currently 9) plus maybe a player not sure who, its said that voss wants speed so maybe MciInerney, Blues give this to Dons for merrett also + a player maybe from us not sure. This will allow dons to say to Hawks stuff u for this practice of going after contracted players like they have done with WC as well. The AFL should also come down hard on Hawks for tis blatant contempt of the rules.

I agree that it will need some sort of 3 way club deal if we are to land Charlie. With reports both Petracca & Sympkin are also open to moves, which may help facilitate this.

If we do land Charlie, then we're certainly need to offload one of our KPFs, unless club is confident Logan can be turned into a KPD. Hoping we retain Buller and he continues to get his senior chances, which puts Mclean imo as excess to our needs either way.

It could get messy, which further heightens why a KPD is of higher priority to our needs being put biggest shortfall.

I seem to recall way back in the day, contracted players required their club's permission to speak with other clubs. I think this was before player agents became in the vogue.

Anyone got any goss on who we might look ar in the draft with our first pick? Looks like Max King might slide beyond that (which is a massive win for us!)

IMO it's a bit early to be speculating on who Sydney may draft with the first round pick for these reasons:
1. Compensation picks for free agency and bid matching will cause the current pick 9 to slide to as low as pick 14.
2. There is a possibility that the pick could be traded to recruit a player from another club. Sydney is one of three clubs chasing Charlie Curnow, and Carlton will want to negotiate a good price to give up a good, contracted player.
3. With multiple Academy players being a chance to be drafted, the pick could be traded for points. I can see a club like Essendon being interested in swapping the pick for a pair of later picks they won't be using anyway.

Assuming Sydney still has the pick on draft night, it's likely to be around pick 13 or 14. At that point in the draft it's the best available player, and Sydney may choose to use the pick on a player that was rated as top 10 but has slid down the draft board a bit. Given Sydney's mixed results with first-round picks in the past 10 years, I cannot guess who will be recruited.

The easiest way to lool at it, outside of Academy Selections, look for a player rated 10 spots below our selection.

If Sydney have Pick 10, look for a profiles of players to be selected 15 to 25, we will take one of them.

For any sort of assurance, dont look at 2022 Draft, I think we got 2 games out of 8 selections across all the drafts that year and I think they are all now delisted or moved on.

Pray, Sheldrick, Green and Datolli become the players we hope they will.

Don't fall for the Warner gem Pick, that was pure luck, we selected 3 guys in front of that Pick ourselves that year, all rubbish

Every good team have 2 very good halfbacks and 2 very good small forwards and 2 very good wingman.
We have 1 very good halfback in Blakey - and we have tried multiple other players in the other role including Matt Roberts, Braeden Campbell, Riley Bice and no one has taken the next step of being that line breaker 2nd halfback. Not sure if Sam Wicks is a line breaker but his kicking in general play is not bad but he does so much defensively taking the best small forward that he is never going to be the line breaker small halfback Ala Zorko.
We have 1 very good small forward in Papley and again we have tried many players in the other role over the last 5 years and none has worked. I am hoping that Dattoli can be that player and hence our interest in the Suns Rosas.
We have 1 elite wingman in Errol who can go up and down the ground but the other has been elusive.

Then the ever problematic situation of being deficient in
1 KPF
1 KPD
1 Big bodied midfielder.

Not sure if we can fill all these 6 gaps. We can certainly do very well in the competition if we fill 4 of those gaps but we are not winning the premiership with only 2 fills this coming year.

Internally we are not developing some of these players as well as we should be. I am not sure why Braeden Campbell cannot be elite by now ! He has all the tools to be in the top 6 in our team.

I dont blame Cox to try something differently last year as we were anyways going to struggle with form and injury and some good things have come out of this and also some players have had some reinvigoration of their enthusiasm due to different roles given to them this year. We needed a shakeup.

We need to go after Curnow. and maybe a midfielder if we can to improve our centre bounce and contested game.
I am hoping that the other 2 roles - pressure forward and line breaker halfback will be internally filled. Hopefully Bice / Campbell / Dattoli / Roberts makes that leap this year.
