Those 2 are fwd line or bust, Logan can Sam Reid versatile
McLean is quite versatile in that he can also go back if needed to shore up the defence. His ruck work is just average at best but his marking ability is probably on a par with Logan- maybe even a shade better. Amartey on the other hand is more limited, as you say. He has the talent and needs time to develop however it seems he’s body may not be up to it consistently, particularly his hammy. So he is bound to miss a lot of games each season unfortunately.

Need to get his body right over the rest of this season then set him up properly for a full pre-season going into next year.

We would be mad to give him away now and see someone reap all the benefits, especially if we only got back basically what we paid to begin with on him (most likely less). We've made the sunk investment now, need to give it time to either wither on the vine or prosper.
Could not agree more, and from memory he did kick 30 plus goals last year. One of his best attributes is his recovery and deft little taps (just like Sam Reid used to) when the ball is on the ground. Mobile key forwards are hard to come by. There is no way the club will trade him

McLean is a good mark, but the opposition have worked him out and use body on him legally stop his leap and as a result is not taking enough pack marks. I think he does a good job as the back up ruckman, and while he may not get many hit outs he contests well.

Not always legally bud- a couple of times there were arms around him where he should have received a free. He is not a consistent high mark but he’s quite a good pack mark: I think he’s the best we have atm.

Not easy being a Ruck and the lead up fwd.

              Very taxing positions

Wicks has signed a three year contract extension. Good on him. I was always probably one of his stronger supporters on here, but even I’ve been surprised at how well and quickly he’s adjusted to the role down back. Great credit to him and the coaches. Given the calibre of small forwards around the comp right now, it’s a crucial role and he’s nailing it.

Good news. For me, Wicks has probably been the highlight of our season. Bice being a fair bit better than I thought he'd be, would be my pick for next best.

Yep - right now, if we project forward to the Bob Skilton medal evening, Wicks gets most improved, and Bice gets best first (or is it first and second) year player. And it's not even close.

? Wicks and Bice have been the bright spots in this otherwise benighted season. The one thing an injury crisis does is uncover one or two really good players.

Adams is in the mix too, after playing limited minutes in the VFL this past weekend. Though I hope they give him at least one more week in the VFL (or maybe use him as sub). The player he’s most likely to push out (based on physical and positional similarity) is probably Sheldrick. But I thought Sheldrick had a pretty good game after coming on after halftime against the Bombers. Did it help him that he came on when the team started playing better football? Or was the causal effect in the other direction? Either way, I hope he gets another game (as sub or not).

Guess the doctors will know best but I’m not playing any of them in the seniors this week, despite our dire status. Amartey has a soft tissue history, Mills has barely played for 18 months and Adams also needs time. This season is what it is. Think long term for the player and club.

Yes, Sheldrick needs a run of games so we can assess where he’s at. No point bringing him in and out or even being a constant sub. Adams needs another week in the VFL and then maybe back afterwards as sub. If Amartey and Mills are ready to return:

                                Ins: Mills, Amartey, Ladhams.
                                Out: Paton, Hamling, Francis.

If either Amartey or Mills not ready, then Francis stays and someone from the two’s- any suggestions guys?
