I'm ok to get Curnow if we can get King and Kyle. But we can't forsake our Academy.

Apparently Rowie is not agitating for a move elsewhere.

I think we can go into deficit if we need to. The only academy likelihood next year is Jason McCartney's kid and he will probably choose North under the F/S. And from what I can ascertain this year, our top rated boys are King and Kyle who are athletes as much as footballers. There is no Heeney/Mills/Blakey/Gulden/Campbell this year.

I agree, we would have to be covering bases.

It will look ordinary on face value but
          Pick 10 > 14/15
          Next year's 1st 18 > 24 after Curnow kicks 5 in a GF win
          Rowy = Surplus

Get back some later picks for Points

The Curnow trade speculation continues. Tom Morris now reporting of talk that Will Hayward will be formerly offered.

The chase for Carlton star Charlie Curnow heated up on day five of the AFL trade period, with Geelong seeing an offer rejected as Sydney prepared its bid.

Before he re-signed with us, he'd had a terrific chat with Michael Voss and he has reportedly said that the thing that kept him in Sydney was an honest discussion he had with Horse. He has said lately that his preference is to stay in Sydney, but would not be shattered if he went to Carlton. And Carlton really wanted him last time and offered him somewhere around a five year contract. (As opposed to the attitude of his best mate Ollie, who told his manager he didn't want to know what other clubs were offering, he just wanted a new contract with the Swans).

There’s a bit of this that still has me intrigued and it has nothing to do with the Swans. It’s what’s happening at Gold Coast and how it might lessen what we need to give. Hardwick has had two years to look at the list and clearly seen a few gaps he doesn’t like. He’s let some first 22 players go - Ainsworth being the latest. He also dropped Walter late in the year, and is now bringing in JUH.

What’s the odds of Curnow to Sydney, Walter to Carlton and Rowie to Suns being the foundations of the deal. We’d still have to give Carlton our two first rounders but not Hayward, one of those might head north (assuming this years as they’d want to keep next year for Walker as a FS), and there’s some later pick swaps to smooth out the deal, including some back to us for Rowie that we can then use on our Academy kids.

It would be a gamble for the Suns in some ways, as it assumes JUH works out and King doesn’t head back to Melbourne next year as a free agent.

Anyway, not arguing for it, nor is it likely, but what’s happening up there fascinates me.

Suns are not letting Walter go, he has a big future ahead of him and JUH could well end up a bust. Walter is contracted for 2026, will be at GC for sure.

Nervous about the whole Curnow situation and nervous we are going to not match academy bids, Exhibit A - Joel Cochran last year not matched even at pick 47

Swans are obviously being dramatic by leaking there will be an imminent offer on Curnow and making us wait a weekend for the offer to be made public.

Cal Twomey - who tends to be the best in the business and avoids making stuff up - reporting that Ollie has been told to look elsewhere, even though he wants to stay.

I get the want for Curnow but it's bad business signing players to 5 yr deals then asking them to look

Tell Lloyd, Adams, Rampe, Hamling to look elsewhere not 26/27 yr olds that we just courted for 5 yr deals

Happy to offload players like Floreant never understood why they offered him such a long contract I kind of thought he was always Marin grime till we someone better to replace him.

And Ch7 reporting McRae is testing out Rowbottom’s interest in heading to the Pies, with the caveat Rowie wants to stay.

Although I am happy to move a few players to try rejuvenate the list (which I believe we drastically need) but putting the hard word on players can leave a bitter taste in the mouth and hurt morale
